Girls & Boys: J5 Edinburgh 2, UK - clay (outdoor) (Week 28)

A stronger field than week 1, as some of the Wimbly juniors players show up. However, suddenly going back to clay is not ideal.

Boys:

Matt Rutter is top seed, and safely through to R2

Roy Keegan, seeded 3, however, got beaten easily by Anthony Weingarten, 2 & 2

Hugo Coquelin - our UNDER 16 National Champion - also lost - in three sets. Which is rather surprising, I would have thought.

Young Ben Gusic Wan also won; as did Phoenix Weir

Girls:

Issey Purser is top seed and into R2.

Other R2 matches still to be played.

But Mimi, Jaquelyn O and Isabelle Lacy are in the main draw.

As is last week's winner, Talia N G.

Not to steal your thunder CD, but it looks like 13-year-old Ben has taken out 16-year-old Wimbledon Main draw player, Fabio Nestola in two tight sets.

Others through include Pheonix and Matt Rutter who now play each other.

Not an issue, LordB, not in the slightest biggrin

The more the merrier smile

And yep, absolutely, that's a big win for Ben - he only got ranked this week and you expect age to make more a difference in boys than girls, so it's a big win for a 13 year-old.

I see that Sam Reeve (seeded 2) lost again to unseeded 14 year-old Charlie Robertson, and far easier this week (it was 2 & 2 this week, but a third set TB last)

A super win for 14 year-old Abby Kelliher (ranked 2421 from just one event) over Jaquelyn Ogunwale, ranked 590 who's just been playing in Roehampton and junior Wimbly.

Mimi Xu was imperious, continuing the 13 year-old's SO impressive run. She won 2 & 0, over the third seed. Having seen her play live this year, for the first time, I am SUCH a fan. She now plays Abby.

Ella McDonald beat last week's winner, Talia N G.

And will play Issey Purser, the top seed.

Thanks, CD. So excited for Mimi too. In Mimi and Hep, we have some really good prospects.

Surprised to see Isabelle Lacy lose today, she looked great at Wimbledon.

Definitely great prospects Heph and Mimi. Isabelle lost yesterday in round 2 to Ella Mcdonald 3 & 3 not today.

In the boys quarters, Phoenix lost out to Matt Rutter, top seed.

And will play Anthony Weingarten in the semis.

In the other semi, Luca Pow plays Louis Bowden

Interesting results from Edinburgh:

In the boys SF,

Anthony Weingarten (ITF 1877) defeated the top seed, Matt Rutter (ITF 372)

He will play Luca Pow (5) in the final who defeated Louis Bowden (7)

In the girls SF,

Mimi lost to 14 year-old Abby Kelliher (ranked 2421 from just one event), which makes another amazing win for young Abby.

One can be a fluke but two begins to get interesting....

Abby will play Ella McDonald who beat top seed, Issey Purser, in two
