Jamie's ranked high enough to take Dan's doubles spot which is good news.

Kerber out on the women's side. Looking at the rankings, I don't actually think Harriet would have ended up a million miles away (I mean she's still way out on 14 June rankings, but closer than you might expect). But any withdraw after today go to the doubles only players.

question - could Joe, Jamie and or Neal end up with a surprise singles spot if lots of players fall away between tomorrow and the event?!

Question is - would they want to play ?

Jamie hasn't played singles at ITF or above since 2012

Joe last played in 2018, and Neal in 2016

Is there somewhere that you can see the current list of entries for the Olympics?

Wiki has all the entry lists in the same place and seems pretty much up to date as far as I can tell eg AdM is taken out of their listing now

Mens is down to 127 ranking for entry now, womens is at 108. Mens has 4 open spaces as well, womens has 1

Gosh, if the LTA had reserve nominations on the ladies side they would have made it. Hseih (not Su-Wei, her sister) and Hsu have just been accepted into the doubles, and both are ranked around 190.

So using best of rankings, Heather and Harriet (and various other combos) would have been higher than that. Wonder if LTA have been caught napping here and just never assumed it would go this low (a silly mistake).

I'm not a big follower or fan of Olympic tennis at any time I should say.

But I'm finding it hard to see why if protocols and bubbles were followed at Wimbledon players are testing positive now. So either protocols weren't followed or it's not really possible to control the spread.

Anyway round the possibility of catching and spreading Covid at the Olympics seems enormous when you look at the size of the event and the logistics involved.

It does seem that either the vaccines aren't as effective with top level athletes or they've been reluctant to engage with the vaccine program. All that aside it means we have a somewhat unbalanced competition and while I admire those who travel to participate I can't say I think it makes any sense unless you're Djokovic seeking the golden slam.

I've just seen an absolutely superb ident for Paralympians on C4 just to remind me there is a very good reason for the Olympics to go ahead full steam.

Tokyo Olympics: Covid case found at athletes village, raising infection fears - The Guardian

I have a feeling this Olympics will be one where a lot of participants pull out during events as Covid hits in the village.

Not saying that it will prove dangerous, these are young and fit athletes, but it could prove very disruptive. That aligned with no crowds watching gives me a feeling of an event that wont capture the public imagination.

Anyone out there really care about how many medals Team GB brings home?!
