Olympic tennis

The mens entry level has dropped to 144 and is no longer in on his legacy position but is in fact
A direct entry , 55th on the list.

Womens entry level is 109 now.

Liam Broady to the Olympics ?

This from Stuart Fraser on Twitter

Hearing that Liam Broady is being lined up as a potential late addition to the men's singles entry list for the Tokyo Olympics. If confirmed (logistics still to be sorted), he would join Andy Murray in the field.

That would be fab (but makes it more annoying the LTA didnt do such possibility planning on the women's side....).

I am a big sports fan, following many sports to varying degrees and normally hugely into the Olympics, even if ironically enough not overfussed about Olympics tennis however strong the fields, well most particularly negatively fussed about Olympic mixed doubles.

At this stage I really don't know how much I will get into these Tokyo Olympics in general. They will clearly be far from the same although still a huge ( often lifetime ) goal for many competitors . How much the athletes' competitive spirit draws me in, while lacking atmosphere, I can't call yet, other than I am pretty sure it will be less so than normal.

I imagine that I will be much less interested in overall GB medal totals this time and what interest I find will be in particular events and stories.

I never think I'll be that bothered about the Olympics then find myself drawn in. The time zone makes a big difference,I don't like to see the result of an event and then wait to see it shown some hours later. But I barely left the house during 2012 I loved every minute of it and watched sports I'd never had at the vaguest interest in.

I can't imagine what it's like for the athletes for whom this is their last major event, they've already trained an extra year and to know that at any moment you can just be out of the event because of a positive in your bubble must be really tough.

I just can't see this engaging me but I'd loved to be proved wrong. Mostly I want the athletes who do go to feel this isn't a write off and they are supported even if not in the venues.

On that note if Liam is willing to travel I'd be thrilled for him to have the opportunity to participate.

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but do we know what surface they'll be playing on?
And, yes, great opportunity for Liam!

Also, can I check, do the Olympics have ranking points and how many this time? 800 for winners I think previously ?

No, points were only awarded for 2004 to 2012 inclusive. None for Rio on 2016. (Source wiki)

Gauff has tested positive and is out. Suspect she won't be the last.
