Alicia takes the second set 6-1. Kylie one game away at 5-2*. Matilda has had a lot of long games, but has just battled ahead for the first time at 5*-4

Kylie carried on gliding

She looks so loose and light as she plays, hardly breaking sweat, with her slightly strange trajectory on the ball that she gets

Made it look very easy

Eva acquitted herself very well but goes down 7-6(4) 6-4 Matilda struggles to penetrate, so there are a lot of long rallies, and a lot of missed setpoints before she finally hauls herself over the line 7-5

Stonking match from Eva. And her opponent. Eva lost the second 6-4. And the score overall was fair. But really high level.

I know the AELTC are not in charge of the weather. But it was a hugely intense match.
AND then look at Matilda's - been playing 90 mins and just finished one real killer of a set (for our Tilly).
BUT the winners have to play again today.
I don't agree.... it's not right

The later start this year robs the tournament of the usual spare day to enable completion by Sunday. Once the weather forced the first round over an extra day they were really forced to play 2 matches a day (boys will probably face the same tomorrow).

Alicia is 4-3* in the decider
Ranah 3*-4 (streamed)

Why did they start Roehampton and Wimbledon later?

Having a spare day available seems like a rather good idea.

I don't know, but I assume Covid related (Roehampton is reserved for main draw qualifying, so cannot be used for juniors until the Sunday, and i guess there was a problem finding an alternative venue for Roehampton qualifying, which started on Sunday this year - it is normally held elsewhere).

Ranah takes the first breakpoint of the set and serves out 6-4

Roehampton qualis is normally at Surbiton, I seem to remember.

Given they held the Nationals, maybe they didn't want to do that too? Although that surprises me, because the club normally seems SO willing to do any and all events.

Whatever, I don't think you should ever make round 2-ers play again. Maybe double up on the QFs if you have to, but not R2, there's just way too many players.

Matilda and opponent are killing themselves out there. And it's still in the second set.

Alicia comes through 3-6 6-1 7-6(5) which looks fair from the stats as she had 14 breakpoints to 2

PS Pretty sure I saw Joss Rae in the stands, watching Kylie.

I guess she is part of her coaching team?

I'm going to assume juniors have to be in the bubble and maybe it was felt that reducing how long they were bubbled was a welfare issue or as they're all in 1 hotel, a space issue in the hotel

Yes it was definitely Joss - I came to the same conclusion.  Re the scheduling I would agree that usually if you have to play 2 matches in a day then the quarters/semis would be a better option - but only if the weather forecast is good for the penultimate day (it isn't)
