Boys: 2021 Wimbledon (Week 27)

Just as Roehampton started 2 days later, so does junior Wimbledon, with qualifying beginning tomorrow in Roehampton.  None of the Roehampton main draw wildcards are in qualifying, so they are the most likely recipients of main draw wildcards.

QR1

(q1) Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg (FRA) v (qWC) Matthew Rutter

(q2) Martin Katz (BEL) v (qWC) Patrick Brady

(q3) Villus Gaubas (LTU) v (qWC) Billy Blaydes

(qWC) Miles Groom v (q11) Azuma Visaya (USA)

(qWC) Luca Pow v (q10) Robin Bertrand (FRA)

(q7) Igor Kudriashov (RUS) v (qWC) Phoenix Weir

(qWC) Alexander Knox Jones v (q14) Orel Kimhi (ISR)

What on earth has happened to Joel Pierleoni? One of our best grass court players. I've got to assume he's injured??? Coz there's no way, surely, that the LTA would overlook him.

And Matt Southcombe?

I'm not quite sure why Roan Jones is so favoured - he'd born 2003, is only ranked JWR 480 - there are several above him who have not been selected (Matt Rankin, Freddie Ridout, etc etc)

NB Remember that Hugo Coquelin, in particular, is here because of his U16 title (despite being only ranked 1370 or so)

Several of our wildcards here are entered into the J5 in Edinburgh.

I assume they can't play both.

It's going to leave the Edinburgh draws even skinnier.

Bit of a difference, though, between J5 and Junior Wimbly

Wow ! Both Billy and Pat Brady have qualified

That's two wins each, against two much higher ranked players.

And decent score for Miles too

Jack PJ has a ranking rise to #8 from Roehampton in todays listings, a 3 place rise .

The french boys have 3 of the top 4 in the new rankings now, van Assche is #1 now

But the French champion obviously isn't much of a fan of grass, as he goes out in the first round

I was just about to ask about Matt Rankin in particular too. Thanks for the note on Hugo, CD, as he was going to be my example...still feels a little unfair Matt didn't get a shout here, I see he's just won a grade 4 title in Cyrpus without dropping a set.
