OMG absolutely amazing performance from Emma . The win was even more superb because she had to really fight in that second set .

We are seeing a changing of the guard at the top of GB women's tennis, it's been coming for a few years now. It must be great for Heather and Jo to see the progression happening, that they can pass the baton on with confidence to the younger players, and have a hand in guiding them as they develop. First Katie B., then Harriet, both taking responsibility and performing so well in the recent Fed cup ties, then the youngsters Katie S., Jodie, and now Emma all progressing rapidly. The whole group self-propelling. Competition at the top. Anne Keothavong said at the last Fed Cup tie, that all the players were about at the same level. GB women's tennis is looking strong atm, especially on our favoured surfaces.

You have omitted Fran who has progressed more rapidly than Jodie!

KK, my error, and a glaring omission at that, Fran is also in that group too. She played so well against Coco Gauff, and showed she can compete at the top level.

As I have just added to the Strongest Nation thread, with a current big rise very largely due to Emma's Wimbledon ranking rise but also Katie B and Katie S, and with decent general back-up from others such as Fran and Jodie as mentioned , our post Wimbledon combined top 10 wonen's rankings is looking quite likely to our best this century, even if Emma doesn't get yet another win. Live it's 1887 against a best of 1901.

Bold prediction: British number 1 within the next 12 months

I think you might be getting carried away ther.

She has always had the potential to be top 100, just exams meaning she has not played that much.

I suspect Katie Boulter, if she can remain fit, will challenge Jo and Hev for GB no.1

The level Emma is playing at anything is possible in the next round. Alja will largely give her the same ball every time, much like her previous few opponents. Emma's only weakness as far as I can see (and it's relative) is that her forehand is less solid, I worry that she'll struggle against a player that mixes it up more with spins and slices. That said, I can't believe I'm typing that - what a week!

And frankly, she could lose 6-0, 6-0 in the next round and we'd still be happy.

I'm honestly on cloud nine with Emma's result.

I wouldn't at all discount it myself. Produce this after so short a full time focus ...

Wouldn't it just be great if Jo and Katie B can find sustained firness and Heather more consistent belief. All 3 of these plus Emma can be top 100, and we've only had one week this century with 4 in the top 100 ( and the 4th was WR 100 ) in Bally, Anne, Heather and Laura. That probably won't all come together but some of it please.

GB number 1 in 12  months could be any of Jo, Heather, Katie B or Emma.

Interesting to see she's staying on Court 1 on Monday rather than moving to Centre, trying to keep the pressure off perhaps?

I think Heather will only get to #1 if JoKo falls back a long way - and that wont be a good thing! In a year, hard to see Heather being higher than now, hope i am wrong. I hope Jo can maintain a top 50 ranking and if she does think that will be enough. Katie can make top 100 in next 12 months for sure, maybe push the top 60-70, Emma could also push the top 100 but I see Jo being top in 12 months time

I think that was a very good move by Wimbledon . Shes got great memories of No 1 Court and putting her on Centre Court would have put a lot of pressure on her .

If she does get into the QFs and Barty wins then Id expect they will really have to put her there .

Save that for a QF vs Ash

Hopefully she can deal with what I sense is some sudden real expectation for Monday with folk considering Tomljanovic relative to Cirstea and what we witnessed today. But Monday is a new day.

She does though seem to have a really good match head and ability to get full focus back if it goes wrong early or during a match

Just go for it and enjoy, Emma.
