Week 26 - Wimbledon - London (grass) - women's main draw

Wow. She was brilliant. I loved how she was aggressive but never crazy, the big shots she went for all made sense. A huge achievement, and I don't know why but when she dropped to her knees it made me think of Bally when she made round 3 beating Coetzer at a similar age.

Yes she reminded me of Bally too, very endearing

WHAT ON EARTH! WHAT A STAR! I was shaking here in the last game, she was cool, calm and collected. Incredibly clutch performance from an 18 year old. Most exciting prospect since Robson?

She has way more variety than Robson.

Well if Emma can avoid the Curse of the Talented Young British Female, I think she has a fine career in front of her!!

What PaulM said!  A real joy to watch, played like someone well beyond her years.

Like Liam's first set last night, I thought there is no way she can keep up at this level. Incredible

Fantastic performance. Sensational first set after those ugly smash and forehand drive volley misses in the opening game. Recovered well from 0-3 in the 2nd set, helped by Vondrousova's errors.

Completely agree! And she moves far better. But I just meant in terms of a teenage player with the potential to do real damage on the WTA.

This is reminiscent of Gauff a couple of years ago.

Watched this all the way through and...wow. So much maturity and poise from someone so young and comparatively inexperienced.

Brilliant stuff and so well deserved.

I just hope that the press don't get on her back to her detriment.

Flawless and fabulous! She has such a great game and a great head on her shoulders. Based on that performance, coupled with how little she's played this year, there's no limit where her talent could take her.

So in purely ranking terms, Emma has just beat someone almost 300 places above her. That must be one of the best wins by a british woman at Wimbledon for ages. Certainly suggests she's got the potential to go far.
