Mixed draw out. Lots of British interest with a couple of pairs - Harriet and Heather - making it by rank. Eden, Naomi, Jodie and Beth get the wildcards.
Yeah Sam doing fine so far. Cirstea's pace is pinning her back so she's not able to move forward, and her second serve is very vulnerable, but she's constructing points fairly smartly when she is able to control them. Iain Bates has even came along to watch.
Shame she went long on the return on her break point at 2-2* though. Cirstea was throwing in a few errors but has settled down again.
Sam would probably have beaten Ahn too based on that first set...
The only players in the draw who wouldn't have beaten Ahn from what I've seen this championships are Watson, Burrage and maybe Andreescu (the performance today was WOEFULLY bad).
Sam understandably a little undercooked. Would like her to move forward more but Cirstea as you say, pinning her back well. Would love to see this go three if nothing more than to give Sam a bit more time at Wimbledon against a top player.
Nothing much Sam can do right now, Cirstea is rarely missing, hitting with depth and power into the corners. Very much 'peaking'. Shame Sam couldn't have had a kinder draw.
Appeared to be going away from her quite quickly - lost her serve at the start of the set and had 0-40 on her second service game but fought back nicely to hold (after a few deuces) still in with a shot

worth noting so we dont get separate discussions going in different threads, Stircrazy has made a mixed doubles thread which is in the mens section.
No specific reason for it to be in mens other than SC follows the mens fame more but it is a single place for it to be and maybe gives a chance for one or two folks who dont venture into the mens section to post over there!
