Painful to watch ! Heather Watson seems to get stuck in a defensive rut in some matches and loses to players she should be beating. Thankfully Boulter won and I really like her game , I really hope she can stay injury free as she certainly has the game to get back into the top 100 and stay there .

I hope Heather is able to relax a bit and enjoy the Olympics. It will be a strange atmosphere but might be the sort of event that can help her enjoy competing. She looked absolutely miserable yesterday (I'm not sure being on Court 1 did her any favours). At least Ahn is genuinely delightful, her post match interview was lovely. With Kvitova losing to Sloane (and Heather having a good record against her) this little section had opened up making it all the more frustrating she couldn't bring a decent level. And Heather got the analysis of the match right in her press comments, so at least there's no delusion about the quality or what she did wrong.

Looking forward to seeing Harriet and Emma today. Are we likely to see more weather delays?

Steven's post for yesterday, showing that we had a decent day (although Hev's was a shocker, but we didn't need the bookies to tell us that), and that Andy was the outsider of our three wins :

Despite the heaviest GB favourite of the day getting edged out so late in the evening, GB had 3 winners today, which is more or less par for the course based on the bookies' odds (E=3.1)
Wins:
70% Boulter
68% Broady
48% Murray
Losses:
77% Watson
25% Burrage
19% Swan
1% Draper

Looking at the live rankings sites they would seem to imply that our girls get 10 points for a first round loss, but I thought WCs didn't get those points. Does anyone know for sure which is correct?

The women WCs get R1 loss 10 points. The guys don't.

Yes, at women's tournaments  the wild cards get the same points as direct entrants. The only ones that don't get the first round points are qualifiers who would only get the qualifying points.

Thanks Indie and TA.  It is hard to keep up with all this.  Problems of getting old!  At least I can still enjoy the tennis.  Especially looking forward to watching Emma today.  I wonder if they have scheduled her last so they can move her to Court 1 if play there finishes early again?

if we look at today and Tennis Abstract's version of the same (using their own ELO method), then we have todays chances as:

Sam Murray - 16%

Emma R - 18%

Fran - 5%

Harriet - 18%

Dan - 57%

Cam - 62%

So realistically, we are looking at 2 more winners max today to add to the 3 from yesterday...

Harriet got pretty beaten up in that first set, 1-6

The set slipped away 1-6, but it was a bit closer than that 21 to 31 points.

Doesn't matter though, the crucial points were not being won therefore you can't win the set like that.

 Yes, 21 to 31 is pretty one-sided

Second set a little closer in actual score....

This has been said many times before but I really don't see Harriet darting up the rankings until that serve is more of a weapon.

For someone who is fairly ranked at 140 or so, with reasonable aspirations of cracking the top 100, against someone who is fairly ranked at 15 or so with reasonable aspirations of cracking the top 10, that was a reasonable match, with a reasonable score.

Indeed. Though Harriet is going to take a bit of a ( hopefully just ) short term rankings hit as she drops her R3 130 points from 2019. Keep working and working more on that serve

Harriet always seems to have very one sided loses against top opponents. 0-6 0-6 to Sharapova, 1-6 1-6 to Barty, 1-6 3-6 to Mertens. She doesn't really have any weapons or potential to be top 50. But if she'd have had the draw of Watson, she would've won 6-3 6-3 or something. She's a solid player, but the serve is so weak - second serve is awful. But I still see her cracking the top 100 and being in the 70-100 bracket at some point.
