Seeded to take it all the way to the final.

Indeed - I have to say Ahn getting in as a lucky loser threw me and made

me wonder if I should reinstate her !

Well having beaten Heather, Ahn now plays Sloane Stephens so that  baton will probably finish up  with Sloane.

Zapatta Miralles leads Garin 2 sets to 1, possible upset on the cards.

I have to say, I started this little thread and thought it would be interesting but Ive lost interest now! It isnt really that interesting at all! Perhaps that is why they dont do it in real life , ha!

I will continue to record results for it, who picks up the baton, but will let it quietly slip off the radar!

They used to do this on the radio for the FA Cup starting with a team in the qualifying rounds. It was more interesting in the early rounds. Somehow or other this has  hit the buffers with the second seed in the second round. Although Sabalenka's record in Grand Slams shows she is yet to reach the quarter finals. Under normal conditions Sasnovich  would never have beaten Serena so you never know what can happen.

Youre right the early stories are more interesting. They also have the luxury of 3 or so weeks between rounds to research and create a story !

I know of people who go to the opening qualifying fa cup match and then follow the winner , and the next winner through all rounds to Wembley , their own journey through the rounds and grounds. Sadly not an option here!

Well Sabalenka has held on to the baton. But she has a tricky road ahead and Colombia's best player might take it from her.

So the rags to riches batons have reached R4/L16.

The men's has passed along:
Will Jansen ( lost in QR1 )
Anton Matusevich ( lost in FQR )
Bernabe Zapata Miralles ( lost in R1 )
Cristian Garin ( through to R4 vs Novak Djokovic )
Don't be giving that guy our good baton, Christian!

The women's has passed along:
Eva Shaw ( lost in QR1 )
Ekaterine Gorgodze ( lost in QR2 )
Kristie Ahn ( lost in FQR )
Monica Niculescu ( lost in R1 )
Aryna Sabalenka ( through to R4 vs Elena Rybakina )

Of course Ahn picked up another baton which has transferred:
Kristie Ahn ( lost in R2 )
Sloane Stephens ( lost in R3 )
Ludmilla Samsonova ( through to R4 vs Karolina Pliskova )

The two women's batons will face off at the SF stage to determine who takes our women's baton into the final.
