Week 23 - WTA 250 - Viking Open, Nottingham (grass)

It was a "right arm" issue that Katie was suffering from in the Charlottesville 60K at the end of April. After 5 wins ( including 2 in qualifying ) without dropping a set she retired during the SF, and withdrew from her following scheduled tournament.

Now first tournament back she has retired with a "right elbow" issue so it's fair to think it is the same issue or at least strongly linked. Maybe something she thought had cleared and back to back matches have brought it on again.

Bah, the spirit is there, the tennis is there and would no doubt be there much more if she could get and stay properly fit.

Katie is leading 6-5

BUT having an MTO for her right elbow

If she goes into win the match does that also make her a cheat as per comments about Davis earlier on?

Katies no cheat. She was injured and she retired. So sad.

Chris, just to say, that is misleading. I only wrote the first two comments. Re leading 6-5 and mto for elbow.

The other comments are not mine. You should attribute accurately.

Lets hope it's more a case of seeing the bigger picture, achieving what she wanted for the week and moving on up. She had the MTO before the tiebreak and went on to win that so hopefully precuationary. Glass half full and all that. Hopefully she'll atleast be in the draw for one of the next 2 pre Wimbledon tournaments and she's done enough this week to get herself in the frame for US Open qualifying.

Will be surprised if she plays Birmingham now, would she get a WC for Eastbourne or should she rest it now until Wimbledon?

So depressing to see her out injured again - it is so sad, she is such an outstanding player when fit. Hope she rests and gets fit for Wimbledon.

She's winning matches so that's an improvement plus she entered the doubles and played a couple of those which suggests her knee isn't such a worry.  Wy more positives than recently.

Jo had a match point at 5-3*, got broken at *5-4, but just held to take it to a tiebreak.
