Thanks for letting us know junior. smile

Tight first set, but end 6-7(5) - she threatened to claw the TB back, but not to be.

Jo did win the opening set at the US Open last year, before going down in 3, so hopefully something similar here.

Jo follows Heather in losing a set from a 4-2* lead.

6-7(5)

Regroup Jo and test Cirstea's stamina.

Jo misses two break points at the start of the second to keep level. It's still close but she's starting to get a bit ragged.

*0-2

No problem, whether it was an LTA order, or it's just reached that point now, that British players need auto justification during a match that they're still playing? (Incase she loses first round again and puts it on funding by the LTA maybe?)

It was better but still nowhere near good enough. She's looking like she might miss out on a seeding at Wimbledon unless she strings together some wins in Nottingham.

A few players can, and no doubt will, pass her this week, but her ranking will still be in and around the slam seeding positions, despite this incoming hefty drop of points. A decent run at Nottingham and / or Birmingham, and she could still be a seed at Wimbledon.

I know she does still have a couple of slam QFs on her ranking, but it seems pretty incredible that she still has a chance of being a seed. She's 96 in the live race in 6 months worth of tournaments.

live-tennis.eu have Jo at WR31 after today's loss. And there are two lots of 55 points due off in June from Birminham and Eastbourne - not sure of the dates though. That seeding is going to be close-run

I forgot about the best of, and 2020 rule, and the 3 players directly below Jo all had pretty decent RGs in 2020 - 4R, 3R, 4R, so she might not drop much further this particular event, but yeah, Wimbledon seeding will likely be a bit touch and go.

The Eastbourne points are not due off until the week after the 21/06 rankings date that will be used for Wimbly seedings.

However the 55 Birmingham points will be due off and would currently be replaced by a 1 pointer.

She will have Nottngham and Birmngham to otherwise add to her points.

Mind, she has been a seed in her last 5 slams, lost in R1 4 of them, beating Heather in the other, but still ultimately not matching her seed, so it might not make too much difference, bar the loss of Wimbledon seeding perks. (I know there were some tough draws, and a retirement from a decent position).

OER has Jo at live 30, ahead of Alison Riske.

But that appears to be essentially down to Riske's deductions including her s'Hertogenbosch 2019 title points.

However if, as appears to be the case, there is no 2021 renewal in June, she should keep these points for now ( OK, I believe will keep them rather than 'should' in respect of 2019 points! )

So live-tennis's live 31 for Jo looks the more likely.
