Well, that's a turn up for the books:

Emma Raducanu [1] LOST TO Katherine Barnes [4] 6-1 1-6 10-8

ADD: Grace Piper won the other SF, beating Nadia Rawson quite comfortably

 There probably wasn't an umpire!

 biggrinno

(I wasn't going to say it - but it went through my mind, for sure)

Come on people, Emma is a professional and she can handle herself , umpire present or not.

It doesn't matter how experienced a player may be, (s)he can still be robbed by a determined cheat in a non-umpired match.

Indeed. This wasn't the case in the KB v Rad match.... well at least in the tiebreak,  as there was an official present standing by the court.

So are folks saying Katherine Barnes is a persistent .... and Alicia dudeney? We need to be careful here as it is a public forum.

Mmm. Well I personally believe folks need to be careful unless they are really certain talking about British players on a British board with largely British readers which may include people who know those concerned or indeed include those concerned.

Let's move on. If haven't seen the match nothing is there other than the score.

Just to say that all the matches are on youtube so there is 'more than the score'.

For anyone really interested, go watch.

NB I haven't seen very much, I've dipped into Emma v Katie Barnes' match (and for what it's worth, saw nothing untoward, a couple of close calls, but normal; there is an umpire standing by the net for the MTB, although not earlier)

After Matt Doe yesterday, some more excellent wins over ATP ranked players for our lads:

Major congratulations to Josef Southcombe who defeated Aziz Kijametovic [1] ATP 822

Louis Bowden also defeated Adam Jones, ATP 2016, 6-2 6-2

And major hats off to young Phoenix Weir, age 15, who defeated Lasse Muscheites [2] ATP 1245, 6-7(4)6-413-11 - which sounds a huge marathon !

Great for their confidence, and experience, to get ATP wins.

Wasnt Josef Southcombe on the University of the Pacific roster as a Freshman 2018? Hes not on the roster now, so must have left...

Katherine and her boyfriend have a caravan which they pitch at camp sites around the country when playing brit tour. The cost was £40 for 3 nights to attend connaught . That is pretty dedicated to the sport while being very sensible. I hear so many players complaining about the cost of accommodation or commuting to and fro from home and here a two young people living their lives. Good luck to them. This approach must also be valid at futures tournaments. Camping is pretty good value as opposed to 40 euros a night tournament hospitality and continental supermarkets are well stocked

There is a British Tour Leaderboard this year, which is good to see, and presumably a Masters planned for end of year.

competitions.lta.org.uk/ranking/ranking.aspx

Michael Shaw and Katherine Barnes lead as of end of last week.

Alessia Popescu who withdrew from her programmed match against Emma Rad has popped up in the junior J5 event in Wrexham (and won her first match) so can't have been too badly injured, or just needed to retire to make the journey.
