An intriguing match up.

Moutet absolutely frustrated some of Dan's plays.

Overall, he deserved to win, just.

Dan won't be happy but he's certainly become a decent-ish clay courter now

Maybe Dan has decided to reserve all his good fortune for doubles matches. Dan can only be grumpy after losing a match that took over 3 hours.  It can't be easy for his gf to give her  other half space when you are in a hotel room instead of a house.  Maybe Dan has learned to be philosophical, but I don't think the life of a travelling tennis wag is always an easy one.   Anyway, doubles tomorrow!

I watched it, didn't love it, Dan reverting mostly to trying it slog it out from the back of the court. Don't know what Moutet's gripe was but he was unhappy.
Cold damp day on clay and losing is never a good one.

If Evo wants to be taken seriously, he needs to quit this doubles malarkey.  I can understand players ranked 40-100 playing doubles, to earn extra money, but no serious players e.g. top 20 that compete for big evens waste their time with doubles.

I'm not completely convinced that Mr Evans cares whether you take him seriously.

There are LOTS of singles players who enter doubles at big events to gain court experience at new/different surfaces - it is NOT just about the money which is a pittance for doubles teams.  Doubles is also a very good way to sharpen reflexes at the net and gain all round court craft in an era when baseline play has outweighed all round court experience including serve/volley. Evo won't be the only player to use doubles play to his advantage.

You are missing the point, imagine Zverev or Medvedev, getting into the 2nd week of a slam, and having to go 4 and 5 sets back to back, and then also having to play doubles, is too demanding. Any player that plays doubles, is actually admitting to themselves that they do not believe in themselves or back themselves to reach latter stage of events.

Surely Dan is playing doubles to get court time primarily and on clay , and maybe because he enjoys it. McEnroe played doubles and was the best ever IMHO, as well as being possibly the most talented singles player and possibly the best of his era. He played it to sharpen his game and played much more singles tennis than any top player today.

No, I'm not. McEnroe didn't find it too demanding ...   Your reasoning is seriously flawed.

Glad Jamie got a decent win, be good to see him versus joe and Rajeev, actually think they could win that one, Jamie and Dodig. Evo and Skupski get chance to repeat last week, and Cam gets the chance to do a Brit double over Goffin and cap a great week for him so far!
