By the way, this is the event that Paul jubb won, no? And he got a wimbly md wc? o shouldn't Tad and Finn at least get a doubles q wc? Or even a doubles md wc???
Would be nice if they did get a wildcard. Can't recollect if Eden Richardson got a Wimby wc when she won the NCAA doubles championship in 2018.
Agree. A fantastic achievement to reach the final
Would also be a great opportunity for the LTA to publicise the student-athlete pathway, although they may be less keen to promote college tennis? I couldnt see any mention of it on the LTA website, but they do link in with their UK partner universities. However there are 19 UK partner unis compared to 314 D1 colleges.
Clearly for me not a Wimbly MD WC and Paul Jubb had quite a bit more to his tennis CV from ITFs and latterly challengers. But interesting thoughts re being given a chance with a doubles Q WC.
I've no idea really what this means but Sarah knows her stuff inside out and backwards so I'm passing on her congrats to Luke Simkiss:

The NAIA is another 'league ' / governing body of the US college system and Luke's school is in that and he's probably the number one ranked player , so well done him ! That's no easy feat.
I think most of us focus on the NCAA Div1-3 college and rankings.
It just goes to show that there are various options / pathways out there in terms of college tennis.

Transfers 2021
After 4 seasons at Texas A&M, Barnaby Smith (UTR 13.16) is transferring and has verbally committed to
@FSU_MTennis for fall of 2021. The '19 All-American played at #4 singles/#1 doubles with 57-26 singles record. ITA high ranks of #1 doubles/#37 singles.
Had hip surgery in March, which would explain why he didnt play in the Championships this year.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association celebrates the 2021 ITA All-American student-athletes. The honorific All-American title is given to student-athletes that earn a top 16 seed in the NCAA singles championship, advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA championship, or finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings. The All-American status is awarded to doubles teams that earn a top-eight seed into the NCAA championship, reach the NCAA championship quarterfinals, or finish in the top 10 of the final ITA doubles rankings.
Quick Hits for Men's Brits
- The SEC has the most singles All-Americans (10) and doubles All-Americans (6)
- Tennessees Johannus Monday is the only freshman to receive ITA Singles All-American honors
- Auburn's Finn Murgett / Tad Maclean, Auburn - All-Americans Doubles
- TCU's Alastair Gray / Luc Fomba- All-Americans Doubles
Does anyone know what the current rules are about prize money and US college players?
Arthur Féry has just QR1 at Wimbledon and is as Stanford, and I was wondering if he can take the money?
(And same goes for Felix and Jack PJ if they want to keep their options open)
Generally, once prospective student-athletes enroll full time at a college or university, they may not accept more prize money than expenses for each competition. ... Once PSAs accept more than $10,000 in a calendar year, they may not accept more than expenses in any subsequent event.
Looks like Arthur will have to stay in some expensive hotels, eat lobster, steak and spend ££ on coaching to keep his expenses high I am sure there was something posted about Paul Jubb when he was in the same situation?
There was a recent change so SAs could make money from their likeness, but were concerns that would turn amateur college athletes into pros..
What have our college players been up to? Results from the Progress Tour (seems the majority of matches so far this summer) plus a few from the Brit Tour

Memphis* JS will be transferring to S Carolina Fall 2021. Iowa players will be transferring due to closure of the programme.
LB- Leeds Becket, St - Stirling Uni
The Progress Tour seems to attract a good mix of college/UK uni, pre-college and slightly older players who just enjoy competing - guess prize money always welcome. Good to see some internationals playing the PT (unlikely in a Brit tour?) - former OSU player Katrina. Apologies, not so good on knowing my women college players; not come across JoJo, helped she wore her college top for pics on Twitter. Uni of Delaware is on the list of Public Ivies.
JoJo Bach (real name Jonea) was based on France, at the ITC Excellence tennis academy in Nimes in France. Played a lot of domestic French tournaments.
I don't know but I think her dad is French (he's called Francois - seems a good guess ) and the whole family were based in France.
And her father, I seem to remember, was a coach in the French system (and maybe in UK too?) In fact, I think Jojo might have even switched at one point because she came up on all the ITF sites a few years back as French, but then seemed to be GB again, so it might have been a glitch.
British Tour Grade 1 Paddington Not sure the all the seedings were quite right due to the pandemic and College matches not recorded by the LTA (yet - allegedly will be when the WTN is used) but nice to see so many of our college players have qualified for the main draw:
Mens Qualifiers David Stevenson (Memphis), #3 James Davis (Denver), Rahul Dokia (Baylor), #6 Ewan Moore(Tulane), James Wilkinson(Delaware) and Matt Beecher (Campbell)
Main draw wild cards: #5 Toby Samuel (S Carolina), George Davis (William and Mary) correction not the right George Davies!!
The ladies results havent been updated
update I got the wrong George Davies- playing is George R Davies who is 26 and not at college (the tournament website wasnt very clear)

Not US college transfers in the usual sense, but two of our super bright ladies are transferring back to the UK.
Georgie Walker who graduated with a degree from Furman this summer will be taking a Masters in Environmental Policy at Clare College, the University of Cambridge in October 2021. Allegedly Georgie will be joined by Emily Arbuthnot who graduated with a Masters after a 5th year at Stanford and will also be studying for a Masters at Cambridge in the autumn 2021. These two will definitely add strength and depth to the Cambridge team.
