Taking a break

6 fold interest increase though so just be sure that you are OK with that on your mansion, Bob.

All the best.

Congrats, Bob. Has to be a good result. I remember the days of double-digit interest payments, so your six-fold increase is steep, but not as painful as it could have been.

Thanks. I am trying to follow the grass court season with a bit more enthusiasm, just to see how it goes.

I know this is Bobs taking a break thread but I noticed Ace had gone missing for almost a week now - he may be on holiday, but it is most unlike him to not post at all, anyone know if he is ok?

It's only four days, could just be a long weekend.

Update:

My 2nd court case (against a bank) now has a date: 25th Oct. Quick summary of the situation.

2005 I put down 25% deposit on an "off plan" property on a new golf resort.
Builder ran off with my money (and that of about 1000 other people as well)
Builder went to prison where he shared his accommodation with the town Mayor who had falsified planning approval docs.
Bank refused to make good on the bank guarantees.
Those affected (as an action group) took bank all the way to the Supreme Court and won.
In 2017, my lawyer told me she was 99.9% sure I was getting my money back.
People started to take their individual actions against the bank but then one person still lost (despite supreme court ruling) because he was deemed an investment buyer.
I was buying this house for my father but bought it in the name of my company for tax reasons.
The argument on the 25th is therefore whether I am an investment buyer or was buying to private use.

I am told my chances are about 50/50 but I have to try. A large lump sum plus 16 years of interest would make a massive change to my circumstances. Even if I win, I would not be surprised if the bank took this to the appeal court so I am not getting too carried away with the likelihood of a swift resolution to the situation. But who knows. What will be, will be.

On a more personal level, I have managed to get myself a little bit of breathing space financially (although winning the above would still solve a lot of problems) and health wise, I am doing much better. As I am sure I came across in my opening post on this thread, I was in a dark place back in February but I am working hard to turn that around and things are moving in the right direction.

It took me a while to get going with a new fitness regime, but when I hit my 59th birthday (back end of May) I set out on a 12 month journey to lose weight. At that time, I was 128kg (20 stone in old money) which for me was way too high. I set myself the target getting down below 100kg by my 60th next year. I am pleased to say that in just under 4 months, I have already lost over 15kg, weighing in at 112.5Kg today - and that was before my 31km bike ride this morning.

I have no idea if I can maintain the motivation over a full 12 months, but right now, I am fired up and training hard. If I start to slacken off, I hope you will all give me a kick up the proverbial to keep me going.

So all in all, things looking a bit brighter, but a long way still to go. As you will have noticed, I am still following a bit of tennis, most notably those on my favourites list (Liam, Billy etc) but I am now spreading my time out over other things as well.

Thanks again for all the comments of support that I received here. They were, and remain, a great help.

Bob, you've put a big smile on my face

So pleased to hear life's on the up.

Litigation and admin hassles are a nightmare. So costly, in financial terms, as well as well-being.

All the very best for 25th October.

AND a MEGA well done for the weight loss and exercise - that's fantastic. Keep it up. Seriously. It's inspirational.

(My son has just quit smoking - never was a heavy smoker, still pretty young, but now 2 months without one - and despite having some stressful stuff going on. We're all just trying to get by, and make little strides in the right direction. Keep going and know you've got my full support!)
