Today marks exactly 6 months into my 1 year fitness/weight loss campaign and so I thought I would drop a little update here.

So far, I have completed:

1,085.3km walking
2,860.0 km cycling
26,040 upper body reps
38,400 core reps
17,980 leg reps

On my 59th birthday, 6 months ago, I was 128.0kg. As of this morning, I have clocked in at ..... wait for it ..... drum roll please ..... 104.4kg.

That's a loss of 23.6kg or 3st 10lbs in old money.

Today is officially "junk food day" as I have bought myself a large packet of crisps, some (oven) chips for lunch and a big bag of smarties. I am even having bread and Marmite for breakfast. Tomorrow, I am back on the diet.

The original target was to get below 100kg within 1 year. I still have 6 months to go, so if I can get there with time to spare, then I will see how far I can go. The motivation is still good but I have to confess that getting up a 6am every weekday to train is getting tougher on these cold mornings.

Congratulations Bob - that's a lot of hard effort & commitment. Keep at it - you're worth it. Hopefully your Spanish mornings are a bit warmer than our UK ones

Bob - I've just copied and pasted your message and stuck it in an email to a couple of friends - good news needs sharing, and it's inspirational !

So pleased for you - I know it was really harsh, the lockdown you had over there, completely confined, and to be able to manage what you've done now is just A1 star

Thanks for all the support everyone. It hasn't been easy. I am still having regular physio on my back to try and keep that in shape, I am awaiting XRAY and blood test results relating to the pain in my feet to discover if it is arthritis or gout and I have even had to survive being knocked off my mountain bike on a roundabout which put me out of action for a couple of days. I was lucky it wasn't any more serious than that.

As for our Spanish mornings TennPar, I am sure they are a bit warmer than the UK, but it doesn't seem it at the moment. When I walk to the gym around 06.45 hrs, it is probably about 6 degrees centigrade, but in this last week we have had very strong northerly winds that make it feel much colder. I am sure 6 degrees is quite balmy by UK standards but having acclimatised to much warmer weather over the last 20 years, it still feels cold to me.

Busy resetting my gym work and distance goals for the 2nd six month period - not to mention looking at how to integrate hopping into my routine. Going for a total of 2,400km walking and 6,000 cycling by the end of the 12 month period. Not sure on gym work yet. Still looking at the numbers. If I hit those goals and eat sensibly, the weight loss will take care of itself.

Going to be tough though, particularly in the next three months with the colder mornings and darker evenings. Once the clocks go forward in March, things will get easier again from a scheduling perspective.

And yes Jan, Bread and Marmite is probably the one thing I miss more than anything. It is been relegated to a "Friday treat" for the last 6 months.

Joking aside, standing on one leg and practising is good for you smile I do it whilst brushing my teeth

I look upon Xmas as a time to double my efforts.  I am as Bah-humbug as it comes with regard to Xmas. When people ask me what my plans are, my standard answer is "lock the door and wait until it's over". wink

So with no work commitments, I will be doing double time on the exercise regime during this period.

I might indulge myself though and treat myself to an additional Marmite sandwich for Xmas lunch.

I am with you on Marmite - two comments though Bob. Toast, white toast and butter, not bread, please!

And have you tried Marmite XO ? https://www.marmite.co.uk/products/marmite-xo-yeast-extract-extra-old-250g.html

That is for true afficionados!!!

In my humble opinion, nothing beats the original!

Bob, close your ears..... Hot sausages in a marmite sandwich takes some beating!!
