So what do we think of the draws???

Matilda v (q23) Konjuh
Bains v Jani
Eden v (q5) Friedsam
Swan v Cabrera
Tara v (q27) Zarazua
Eva v Gorgodze

 Hard for Matilda.

Go, Eva !

Gorgodze seems to be a clay courter who's done nothing of any note recently???

Zarazua played well at Notts so that's quite tough.

Jani plays mainly on clay too, so that's a good draw for Naithka

Jodie should have beaten Lizette so no reason Katie Swan can't

ADD: yep, gameover - that's a slamdunk, really, you'd think

Naiktha really has to be winning that one. Not as kind as the men's draw by any stretch, I'd fancy Katie's chances if she had more tennis in her, and I think Tara has a chance.

Matilda will find it very tough going, but Eva should hopefully be able to put in a solid effort.

The scheduling baffles me still. Mainly about court 11.

So, if you've got that one court as your only televised court, then:

Fine with Tomic's match
And then Aidan
Zuk v Rosol???
Barrere v Frat? (just maybe for that one)

AND THEN - two women's matches where I've basically never heard of any of the four players.

Am I missing something?

Konjuh is class hard match for Matilda.

Looking at the draw I think one win Katie Swan

I'd give Katie and Tara (as it's on grass and she's been looking good) a chance.

Not that I think it matters, but Matilda and Naiktha are the only two drawn in the same section, but they would both have to win two rounds to meet (i.e. get past Pironkova and Konjuh)

I guess Rosol is trading as a name that some folks recognise due to beating Nadal several years back at wimbkedon?

I don't see many wins from there, despite being relatively kind draws.

  • Matilda likely to be overpowered, but a good learning experience for her.
  • Naiktha should win that but of all our entrants may be most likely to suffer a baffling loss.
  • Friedsam is very strong and I don't see anything other than a win for her. Still recovering career from injury, but decent results in FO qualies and challengers recently so I think too good for Eden.
  • Swan I think has a good chance if she's playing well - but no idea given how little she's been able to play. Cabrera beat Burrage in Nottingham and took a set from Van Uytvanck so can play.
  • Tara has a decent shot but still the underdog.
  • Good draw for Eva which gives a chance, but still massive underdog given the leap in level and tiny professional experience.

Hope to be proved wrong!

It's the women's  matches that annoy me the most

Good analysis but I'm going for two wins. Minimum. I'd certainly hoped Eden would get a kind draw, which didn't happen. But I think we've got two there.....at least....

I do wonder if Eva may cause an upset...she has played a lot of grass court matches recently, admittedly lower level, in winning both u16 and u18 nationals. Has decent game for grass, playing clay courter, and eva went quite close against storm sanders in nottingham q1 a week ago. Of course it may just show the gap between unranked 16 year old and 200 something in world, but being on grass will surely help.

I'm with you, spireman.
Not so much because of the juniors but she was right on it in the adult event last week.
Good chance of an upset....

As per the men's, there are two tba slots in the draw for wildcards for women's doubles.

Allez, AELTC - rise to the challenge !

One for Lissey and Olivia. Seems perfectly justifiable. They've just won a 25k title. They're top 400. Go for it!

And as for the other one - well, Emily App and Freya are top 500.

Or Eliz and someone if she's in favour.

Or Eva and Kylie.

Or even at an absolute pinch the two girls who won the U18's doubles - Alicia Dudeney from recollection and someone else (Jessica Dawson?)
