Well not surprised to see Katie B and Harriet up there. Frankly don't think Sam deserves one. Played very few matches this year and won none. If you are going to give one to a player who has hardly played then I would at least have looked to the future and given one to Emma.  Personally I think Jodie is a bit lucky to get one. Good for Fran and a reward for at least getting out there and playing.

Not shocked to see Katie S in qualifying nor Emma but Naiktha is lucky and can't see any reason why Tara gets one.

Jo has withdrawn from Eastbourne (wasn't sure where to put this!)

Usually post withdrawals in the entry lists. Given this her home tournament, this to me looks like knee management.

Jo had 7 wins in Nottingham, including 2 in doubles with Donna Vekic, which should be enough preparation. So I guess, why risk further injury and Covid restriction hassles at Eastbourne. Hoping it's not more serious but Jo sounded pretty upbeat on Zoe Ball's radio show yesterday.

Is it possible for you to post without sounding totally aggrieved?

I would've thought Jo would have played her home tournament is all. Gone are the days when she played all 3 UK warm up tournaments (pretty sure she did before!) - and in this case not even 2.

Hopefully the knee is totally fine and she can win some matches at Wimbledon.

Edited: the LTA have just posted her withdrawal citing "on going right knee issue".

TTman did not read as 'aggrieved' during that last post?

Of Jo feels that participating in Eastbourne may aggravate her knee just before Wimbledon she has done the right thing, despite Eastbourne being her home event

I am starting to feel you cannot post anything but happy posts about Jo on here to be honest.

And this is off topic for this thread now

Jo presumably feels comfortable that she will retain her lead in the Most Wins on grass race heading into Wimbledon (see our Predictions thread), and can take the time out...!

PS this is a joke!!!

Not aggrieved at all, how on earth do you get that flamingowings?? As you say, most likely knee management. In normal circumstances Jo would certainly play Eastbourne but thankfully her run at Nottingham means she doesn't need take the risk in tricky circumstances. That's all.

I think the WCs are largely fine, particularly from a GB perspective. I think the vast majority would have been expecting 3 of them to get one, so no surprises there. Jodie was probably more borderline, and the 6 defeats in a row is a bit concerning, but she was very unlucky in 2019, still pretty young, has at least been active, so I'm pleased she's been given her chance. I was surprised about Sam to be honest - been overlooked in the past, only played 3 matches since October, lost 9 of her last 10 matches since March 2020, no real future upside, one of the lowest profiles you'll see, but then I guess she was at least already in the qual positions, so a natural bump up from that perspective. No real gripes about Emma not getting a MDWC given her inactivity, but just personal preference, I'd have preferred her to have got one instead, with the future more in mind, similar to Harry. If it was a case of Sam or next in, then I'm happy Sam has her chance, and I think 5 GB MDWCs is as good as could have realistically been expected.

Pretty disappointed that Snigur was overlooked to be honest, at least initially anyway. I love the way the Jr final is normally played in front of a pretty packed Court 1, and while likely a little bias, I just think the occasion feels more important than a typical overseas Jr final, where it's often a bunch of friends and family placed in a corner. I liked the fact they have pretty much always bumped the Jr winner one group up in recent years, so for her to be circa 200, 3-0 on grass (all against higher ranked players), I thought it was a bit harsh for her to miss out personally. I guess she is still in the W100, so has a chance to claim that likely MDWC, but probably a long shot.

Venus' WC will almost certainly not be needed, it absolutely won't be if the remaining WCs aren't taken up. I can't see any other WCs being awarded / upgraded bar the Nottm W100 winner (if required). If Emma or Snigur got to the SF (which I don't really see) then it probably still wouldn't be enough. It was fantastic to see Emma win yesterday by the way.

Like most others, very disappointed to see the 2 QWCs passed up - it just didn't make any sense. Why not give one to Kylie, or an equivalent Jr, or even a promising overseas Jr like last year (especially with Snigur missing out) - there's obviously less scrutiny on QWCs anyway, so just seems bizarre to pass 2 up. Maybe Jodie was a very late upgrade from Q to MD, and if so, then I'm happier that a GB QWC was passed up instead of a MDWC, but still think both should have been used.

I notice in the Women's Singles that there are 2 more main draw wildcards to be announced - I presume these will be for the winners of Birmingham and Nottingham this week, should the players who win, need one.

I do wonder if Emma progresses further and at least one of the Birmingham or Nottingham winners doesn't need one, whether she will still be moved up to the main draw. She has Pironkova next in Nottingham, so if will be tough for her to progress further, but her results this week have been excellent, and for me the win against Babos today, indicates that she is very unlucky not to have got a main draw wildcard.

I keep seeing best wishes to Ace Ventura for still posting - hope you are not leaving the Forum Ace, and if so, what has prompted that? Sometimes things do get quite bitchy, so hope it isn't that - I think the problem with posting, as opposed to speaking or seeing someone directly, is that things innocuously said, sometimes come across differently to how they are meant to, and of course posts don't give you tone of voice or any of the other things you get from directly speaking to someone, and sometimes stuff gets taken wrongly or humour fails.

Ace is on more than one forum, and posts prolifically. So when he misses a few days it is more noticeable.

I just realised that I have been here a few days over five years - and almost every day.
