Traditionally the COSAT (South American Tennis Confederation) Circuit ended with 2 events in Brazil - a Grade 1 Banana Bowl followed by a Grade A. This year although there is a Grade 1 and Grade A it is the latter which is designated as the Banana Bowl (51st for those counting). This year's event was due to start today, but local Covid restrictions forced the club to close over the weekend, so the main draw is delayed and two rounds of qualifying are scheduled for today. Derrick Chen is our only entrant again. Leo Borg, son of Bjorn, won the Grade 1 event in a final broadcast on a main Brazilian TV channel, and has a wildcard to the main draw, which is headed by Dali Blanch
It hasn't been a successful spell on the South American clay for Derrick, who was the only qualifying seed to lose his opener. He is not in the doubles draw here so will move to the Dominican Republic for two Grade 2s on hard, which may suit him better.
Not Brit related but I noticed that Leo Borg, son of...., won his first round match in the JA in Brazil and now plays the second seed. Borg has moved to Nadals academy now and it will be interesting to see how much progress he makes.
