Yes, looked at odds this morning and well in favour of her opponent.

Yep. I saw that too, Katie around 2/1 when I last looked.

Talaba definitely one of the more inconsistent players I have seen around this level. She's had some cracking wins over the past couple of years, so obviously something there, but still hovvering around the same ranking range. She's definitely crumbling here.

Great stuff. Wins 3-6 6-3 6-2.

Wasn't sure if I saw that coming midway through the second set, but a great fight back. Well done Katie.

Good performance from Katie and a good confidence boost the way she came from behind in games.

Great start to the decider as well, Talaba had 40-0 in both games, but Katie won them both. 2-0*

Talaba very frustrated, flung her racket, but still using it.

ANOTHER game where Talaba was 40-0 up and broken again. Threw in a DF and looks to be crumbling. *4-1. Hopefully she can see this out as would be a very good win.

 Great result.

And thanks for a bit of feedback from the match itself.

Another good win. 9 points, nett 4, so not much of a gain, but great for her confidence.

Bolkvadze or Volynets next, currently 6-4 1-2

I hear Katie S is now training in Spain. This could be a great move for her as training more on clay with the Spanish methods of coaching should make her body more robust and hopefully she would have less injury problems in the future. It will be interesting if all her past problems with injury start to disappear as a lot of British based girls have more than their fair share of injuries.

Agreed - but Katie S's mental fragility and feeling worthless/seriously depressed whenever she loses has been probably a bigger problem for her than the injuries. Her huge success as a junior has probably had a major factor in that - numerous players have found that it is one thing to be feted as a superstar in the children's tournaments and quite another to make it in the adult game. It is hard mentally from going from a giant in a small pond to a minnow in the ocean.

But she clearly still has the desire to play tennis and improve unlike Gabriella Taylor.

Unfair and unnecessary. Taking a bit of time away to pursue other interests didn't do Ash Barty any harm and it's Gabriellas life to do as she chooses. She clearly does have plenty of drive as she isn't sitting at home fretting over what the likes of you think of her.

I wasn't having a go at Taylor, merely pointing out that for all Katie's mental struggles she still wants to continue in the sport. Gabi with similar troubles made a different choice.

I am not sure we know anything at all about Gabi's suposed "similar troubles".

Yes good to see. And it is 8 net points so far - she currently has 1 point from WTA 250 Monterrey ( and 2 points from the US Open ). Being higher level tournaments, these counters may show higher up ranking points tables such as on OER.

That'll teach me not to try a different ranking table when OER won't load !
And I forgot, as she was in qualifying at the USO as a direct entrant, she doesn't have to count that one.

Hmm, not sure what happened there. After a very tight first set, Tara and Emina ran away with it. The Zamarippa sisters won the W80 title at Tyler in October 2020.

QF:- Emina Bektas (USA) / Tara Moore (GBR) CR424 (212+212) def Allura Zamarripa (USA) / Maribella Zamarripa (USA) CR698 (352+346) [WC] 7-6(5) 6-0

She's been quite open about it.

Thanks dodrade. In truth that article rang a bell but I'd totally forgotten about it if I had seen it or similar before. Anway still probably best not to make comparisons in such things as it can at least be misinterpreted. Let's stick to Katie here ...
