Week 6 - Australian Open, Melbourne, Australia Hard

Wow serves it out with an ace!

Incredible effort from Muchova there.

Be interesting to see Bartys take on the time out. A complete turnaround, she certainly looks a bit flustered leaving the court.

What a finish and what a match - well done Muchova. I thought she was tightening up too much to win in the end, but she came through fantastically... and with an ace in the last point. I'm staggered - the joys of live sport. It shows why I never go near a betting shop - I could just never see this happening.

Wow. Not really sure what to say about that. Seems flat and absurd now though. A match of 2 halves no doubt.

I feel the same - it is going to take a while to digest and I've no idea really how to rate Muchova now.

It was more of an 'insurance policy' type Andy. Not wanting what you have bet on to come through - emotional hedging it's called. I'm fascinated by odds, but I've barely placed a bet of any sorts since the start of the pandemic.

Muchova stating she didnt have abdominal injury but that her head was lost. Very interesting there will be cynical people out there saying she played a Djokovic card there. Rightly or wrongly it changed the match. She was out without the break.

But regardless she played near perfect tennis and changed her approach and shot selection so deserves the plaudits. I think Barty got complacent and thought she had it in the bag and by the time she woke up it was too late. Another fascinating and entertaining match on the womens side.

Yep, will be discussed at length in the coming days. 100% changed the match. They'd have almost certainly been off the court within an hour if it wasn't taken as you said earlier.

Chris Bradnam was pretty annoyed when discussing it, but he is pretty consistent with his MTO views.

I'm off to bed now Andy and Jaggy. I think Brady vs Muchova will be the more respectable semi final, so I think I hope she comes through (even if it will likely be a tougher opponent for Muchova in the semi), but the way this top half has gone, you can't rule out JPEG.

I'll catch this, and the 2 men's matches in the morning. Enjoy it both.

Presumably this means the final will be an anticlimax as the winner of Osaka Vs Williams will surely walk it?

This match makes me feel like giving up predictions, but I am sure Naomi and Serena will privately be very pleased at the result.

This second match is much closer Brady UE by a few inches first set and Pegula the second. Always get the feeling Brady has another gear here. And as I speak she goes 3-1 up in the decider.

If Muchova plays like she did today from 2-0 down in the second on the contrary. I think she would frustrate both those players into many UE.

JPEG will be out of the picture here is she goes a double break down youd imagine....

And after that terrible pun above she is a double break down. Brady to serve it out. Even when she lost the first set you still got the feeling she would come through.

Brady serves it out easily and was coasting there from 2-1 in the third.
