If a player is going to win a GS and they are not Serena or ,Osaka  then they need a draw made in heaven. Thus far that is what has happened to Jennifet Brady. Has beaten Bolsova,Brengle, Juvan (Konta), Vekic(  Kenin)  Pegula ( Pliskova) She dId not meet the players  she    should have done and only Vekic was seeded. Of course it helps if your potentIial  opponents are either injured , need an appendix out or lose a set from 5-0 up. At least Brady reached the SF in New York so she has paid her dues in Grand Slams.

Im disappointed in Barty but not surprised.
Disappointed because I didnt set Eurosport to record and so I missed the whole thing and also lost my 50p bet on Barty to win the whole tournament.
Not surprised because while many have scorned her easy ride on that side of the draw, it hasnt worked to her advantage because she hasnt been able to build her match toughness.
And lets give credit to Muchova who has been steadily rising and has been an under the radar contender.

They have this commentator on Eurosport, I used to give him a pass because I would only hear him occasionally, 10/10 points for his dedication definitely, but is not very good commentary

Is anyone planning to watch the semi finals live tonight? 3am start (Serena, followed by the other) so far from ideal. I'm still debating it. Had a few issues with my Eurosport recordings recently, which is making me more tempted, but we'll see.

Sadly up at 6.15 to walk the dog and work starts off around 8.30 ish after the coffee Pot has filled! Been no tennis at all for me all fortnight. Although its often better imagining what has happened!

I'll be there as usual - hoping for 4 hours sleep beforehand and then monster doses of caffeine.

I've decided to watch the first match live. Bed soon, alarm clock set for 2.55am (at least we know the exact time, rather than like a big boxing bout in America, or if you were more interested in the 2nd match and was dependant on how long the first match went). I'll watch the 2nd women's semi final on delay after a few more hours sleep.

After last night I've decided to make my belated New Year's Resolution not to predict tennis matches.

Looking forward to both matches immensely. For Serena, the sands of time are ticking if she wants to beat Margaret Court's Grand Slam record and a Grand Slam semi with Brady or Muchova in the final is probably as good as an opportunity as she will get, but Osaka is playing so well, it is going to be so difficult.

I am also fascinated to see how Brady copes with Muchova; Brady looked out of sorts in the Quarter Final last night but she recovered well, and as for Muchova...I am still pretty speechless after last night.

I don't disagree with your predictions Jaggy, but a resolution is a resolution!

Krejikova looking likely to make the final of the mixed doubles, as well as the women's doubles. I am working tomorrow night until midnight and am hoping the women's doubles final is scheduled fairly early on, or on a night session, if not.

Yes Andy I know what you mean about predictions Im the same I seem to jinx players who are certain to win ha.

Although I reckon Osaka will shade this I would love to see Serena break the record. I think toppling someone like Margaret Court and her horrible opinions would be the ideal scenario.

On Osaka I like watching her game and really want to like her personality however she always appears sultry and aloof when I hear her talk, a bit moody. Maybe as she gets older this might change or maybe Im being harsh but its just the impression I get.

Serena breaks first and holds for 2-0, then has another break point but Naomi manages to get her first serve in for 2-1. The ball toss seems to be an issue for Naomi again and thats basically handing Serena a free hit on the second serve.

I tend to be a little kinder to Margaret Court - she was the product of a broken home, an alchoholic father and very humble roots - the tiny house she was brought in has now been pulled down, but it is in an area a long way from the urbane sophistication of Sydney and Melbourne. Her homophobia is unacceptable, but is a product of her strong religious convictions, not unusual, in my opinion from people who have endured harsh upbringings, and of course it is worth remembering that she is very old.

She was the first female player to bulk up with weights and break gender norms in that era... anyway back to the match, Serena would be a fantastic successor to Court's record and I'd like it to happen too.

Looks like we are in for a long one - Osaka will be relieved to have broken back and held after all those deuces.
