Alfie plays Gordon opening match at Queens. Dermot Bailey also in the field and in the womens Jordanne Whiley and one other Brit whos name Ill have to go back and check. This is a level 2 event
Gordon Reid into the mens singles final at Queens to play Fernandez, who Alfie beat in Paris and The French Riviera event finals. Alfie withdrew from his opener versus Gordon.
Lucy Shuker plays the Sardinia international series 2 final today, having won doubles. This is a 22k prize
Money event, sort of similar to 250 level on main tours.
Wheelchair draw is out- we have Alfie and Gordon mens singles and doubles, jordanne and Lucy in womens singles and doubles, and Andy Lapthorne in quads singles and doubles
Alfie lost the opening set. He stated he finds grass harder than clay and hard, so not a total surprise - grass for the wheelchair game suffers if courts arent as hard, a nice dry Wimbledon helps and we havent had that so I suspect the outside courts are slightly soft relatively and the bounce is thus lower and slower...
...and this is where my expertise ends, but presumably the chairs are harder to move around on grass?
If anyone has insights on technical aspects of wheelchair tennis, maybe plays it, I would love to know more about how surfaces play for those in a chair?
Andy Lapthorne and Lucy Shuker also lost, so apart from Jordanne who is into the semis, Gordon Reid is still to play. Disappointing day in wheelchair really
