Well done Louis Bowden - halving your rankings, wherever you are at, is always an impressive feat.

There are now three US lads and three French lads in the top 10. Chang is the only 2005-born player.

However, Robin Montgomery (2004) is now up to number 3 after her win at the US juniors open.

I wondered if anyone could explain how the junior world rankings work- at what point do players drop off through age? Eg is it just at year end or start of the season and would players like Jack PJ , Lui, Matilda etc all be on the list as this year draws to a close?

I'm pretty useless so all I can tell you is that Jack PJ and Lui are 2003-born, so they will drop off the actual Juniors list at the end of Dec. 2021

Matilda is 2004 so has another year.

That, I think, is clear.

However, the Junior ranking for direct entry into the adult 15k ITFs, in the junior reserved places, goes on longer than the Dec. date - which makes sense.
Don't know if it's exactly one year extra or what, though.....

Separate question: what's the minimum age you can play and get a junior ITF ranking? I tried reading the rules yesterday and there was so many categories and sub-categories, and exeptions, I lost the will to live.
Will the 2008 girl in Loughborough this week get an ITF ranking? Is Hannah Klugman (2009) allowed to play? And get ranked?

Thanks CD! So the year end ranking would include Jack PJ and Lui you reckon, but then maybe the Jan 1 ranking , they would be taken off?

My understanding is that Jack and Lui's final junior ranking can be used for exactly 1 year, with entry subject to there not being 3 higher ranked juniors applying to a given event.

The minimum age for entering a junior ITF is 13. The thread where Emma R became the youngest ever winner of a junior ITF (just after her 13th birthday) was bumped up to just a few threads down. Hence yes Amalia Widdowson (who I assume you mean) is 13 and will be ranked next week.

Hannah will be eligible to enter ITFs on her 13th birthday (February I think).  At the moment she does not even have a Tennis Europe under 14 ranking, as 12 and unders are not allowed to be ranked until the start of the year they turn 13.  However the points she has earned from the limited number of under 14 events she is allowed to enter as a 12 year old will translate into a ranking at the beginning of 2022

Thanks SO much for the explanations, David. Appreciate it.

Lots of action this week, of course, with the J4 Loughborough 1 points going on.

A huge jump for Mimi. Who becomes our best ranked 2007-er (and 6th best 2007-er in the world)

And a welcome to our first 2008-ers - Amalia Widdowson and Isabella Walker :)
