UK Pro Series

I think I have seen this mentioned somewhere on the board but can't remember which thread, also thought it deserved it's own thread.
Anyway UK Pro series should be back this year. However spread over the year. With 8 weeks and then the classic finals week. Website says total prize money of over $500k.
Points system looks the same.

Week 1 15th-21st February
Week 2 1st-7th March
Week 3 15th-21st March
Week 4 5th-11th April
Week 5 19th- 25th April
Week 6 12th-18th July
Week 7 4th-10th October
Week 8 18th-24th October
Week 9 1st-7th November (Classic Week)

Will be interesting to see what sort of entry it pulls considering it will be competing with the tour, guaranteed matches and income against ranking points. Also wonder what the base appearance fee will be this time, think it was $1000 in 2020.

Sensible schedule, avoiding the slams basically. Good to see it back, was a good event last year

I cant recall the prize money on the first uk pro series but this would look like something akin to 50k each week, covering mens and womens, and 100k for the classic week. Are they using weybridge again as the venue?

Sounds like theyre moving Venues around the country each week plus classic week will have an adapted format allowing rest days. Excellent, this was a welcome event last year and I hope it gets good support this year.

The 2020 event had a participation fee of $1000 then:
5000
3500
3000
2500
2000
1500
1250
1000
750
500
250
0
For each position.

The classic week was:
20000
15000
10000
7500
6500
6000
5500
5000
4500
4000
3500
3000

The website still states $500k is on offer so I guess this will all be lower as its over 8 weeks not 5.
I reckon you could halve the classic week money and still keep the same players interested. $20k Id guess on the mens side Liam has only earnt that level at Slams either the WCs at Wimbledon or this years french.

The maths on halving it would be about right I reckon, and I agree it would keep players very interested at half the amount. Plus they will have other options in terms of more challengers or itf events than last year , many could see this as a paid training week.

The schedule has been moved back now so week 1 starts in the March slot originally planned for week 2. The rest is the same but theyve popped a week in August to replace the cancelled February week. But I guess the march dates could still be under threat and it could all change again.

not seen any info re venues for each week yet?

The planned classic week looks like it changes the format from two groups of 6 to 4 groups of 3. Presumably the group winners only then go to the semis stage. The structure allows rest days as a consequence. Earlier weeks 1 to 8 maintain the groups of 6 approach.

Looks like the two weeks in March are scheduled to be played at Loughborough University the 2nd event in April is also planned for there as well. I wonder if the March events will take place. As it looks like the national 'lockdown' won't end till the week after the first one, however elite sport is still on and people are allowed to go to work.

Hard to see these going ahead currently, not sure they will count as elite sport but who knows what the rules are currently! They are all pro's, it is their job, it is UK only so no airline travel required. Maybe it is ok? I have no idea!

The first week of the Pro-Series is still scheduled for next week at Loughborough.

A useful comparison perhaps is non-league football which at National League level is defined as elite level, elite enough to justify playing on at a significant loss with no fans in the National League but although still elite not elite enough to continue at national league North and South level. The main issue for the regional leagues being the absence of income from crowds, not a problem at this level of tennis so I think the definition of elite sport playing on during the pandemic is defined as elite enough to have a benefactor prepared to foot the bill.

They were notorious for a lack of information when the tournament was in full flow, so I wasn't expecting that to change here, however, they have posted on Instagram 4 hours ago, and the start date still says Monday, so I think we can assume it will be going ahead next week.

There were some on here who did seem ITK regarding entry lists last year, but from an outside perspective, looking at the potential women candidates, it's difficult to judge who will be there as a lot those who featured heavily last year have been playing ITF events this week, and next, while others will be at US college:

Maybe one or two of Katy D, Emma R, Maia, Lissey, Beth, Emily Ap could be involved at the top end. There will likely be a few of those you'd expect to be well beaten involved as was the case most weeks last year. Not sure what Sonay has been up to recently. Eliz was one of the more regulars last year, so if she's currently in the UK, I'd be surprised if she wasn't involved. Hopefully they can get a half decent field lined up.

I'll have a search tomorrow, and see if there's anything posted at all. None of the players you mention are on any entry lists next week, so maybe they'll appear here. Also the junior contingent who have been in Sharm (Marnie, Millie, Tanysha, Eliz, Danielle) appear to be available as well.

The link to the official website is https://www.ukproleague.com and there are links set up for live streams
