JonH - see my example in the rules. The other players would stay where they are, not move up. So in your case Paul would become your pick for GB #2
Addict, sorry, being a little slow but if Paul becomes the pick for #2, then he also takes the ranking prediction of your #2, yes? Or he keeps his predicted ranking BUT (somehow) is #2 even though his ranking isn't the second best ranking?
Practical example - just taking a randomly selected list:
On the list below, if Murray retires in April, the person can put Fery into be the new number 2. But is it Fery at predicted 55 at number two? Or Fery at predicted 600 which - somehow - is number two?
He would be predicted GB#2 but predicted WR600. I know it doesn't really work very well for extreme examples, but say you replaced Matusevich with Fery - that would be a good substitute at GB #8.
A better example in this case would be picking Lloyd Glasspool at say WR510. If he finished the year at 510 and was substututed for Andy, you would get 5 points for the WR only, but if you substituted him for Paul Jubb you would get 5 points for WR and 4 points for GB. I think the substitutes will work much better for the women's predictins, where the lower positions are closer together and choosing the last few is much harder.
Ok, thanks - I've got it - the alternative slips into the ranking order at the place of the person he's replacing but keeps his own ranking prediction.
All good !
And it doesn't matter if it has slightly weird consequences (coz in fact the Andy replacement is more likely (unfortunately) than many of the others) - the whole tennis prediction fun is that weird things happen - just got to factor it in as best one can
I'm not bothering for the first time in many years.
I don't see a proper season due to Covid and it will require another change in the rules for rankings.
