Boys & Girls: J1 Villena, Spain, clay (Week 43)

Both Plovdiv winners are here looking for back to back titles. Kylie Bilchev has the task of stopping the unbeaten run of the Andorran winner of the girls' event. The top 3 ranked girls in the world are all here, so I imagine this tournament will comfortably pass the test for allowing Grade 1 points (see the Plovdiv thread)

Boys R1 (L32)

Lui Maxted v (5) Elmer Moller (DEN)

Jack Pinnington Jones v (WC) Rafael Segado Esteve (ESP)

Girls R1 (L32)

Eva Shaw v Fatima Ingrid Amartha Keita (ROU)

(4) Matilda Mutavdzic v (Q) Laia Petretic (FRA)

Kylie Bilchev v (3) Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (AND)

Amelia Bissett v Camilla Zanolini (ITA)

Further success for Jack, but Lui missed out. The girls play tomorrow

(5) Elmer Moller (DEN) d. Lui Maxted 6-4 6-4
Jack Pinnington Jones d. (WC) Rafael Segado Esteve (ESP) 6-0 6-4

R2

Jack Pinnington Jones v Joao Victor Couto Loureiro (BRA)

Comfortable for Matilda, and a bit of fortune for Eva. Kylie also did very well to take a set off the JWR2. Matilda now plays the girl who beat Eva last week, while Eva plays a strong Spaniard (former JWR14)

Girls R1 (L32)

Eva Shaw d. Fatima Ingrid Amartha Keita (ROU) 6-2 rtd
(4) Matilda Mutavdzic v (Q) Laia Petretic (FRA) 6-1 6-4
(3) Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (AND) d. Kylie Bilchev 6-4 2-6 6-1
Camilla Zanolini (ITA) d. Amelia Bissett 6-3 6-1

R2

Eva Shaw v (7) Ana Mintegi Del Olmo (ESP)
(4) Matilda Mutavdzic v Sabina Zeynalova (UKR)

Jack also benefits from a 6-2 rtd scoreline and, though his quarter-final opponent is seeded Jack is higher ranked now, Matilda (and the big three) reach the girls' quarters

Boys R2

Jack Pinnington Jones d. Joao Victor Couto Loureiro (BRA) 6-2 rtd

QF

(7) Aleksander Orlikowski (POL) v Jack Pinnington Jones

Girls R2

(7) Ana Mintegi Del Olmo (ESP) d. Eva Shaw 6-2 6-2
(4) Matilda Mutavdzic d. Sabina Zeynalova (UKR) 0-6 6-2 6-1

QF

(4) Matilda Mutavdzic v Ekaterina Maklakova (RUS)

Unfortunately, Jack lost in straight sets and his team gave a walkover in the doubles.

Matilda won her singles in a third set tiebreak.

Unsurprisingly it is the JWR1 and French Open winner who Matilda meets next (comfortable winner against Matilda in Paris and only dropped 10 games so far here). Millie has a first Grade 1 doubles final to look forward to.

Boys QF

(7) Aleksander Orlikowski (POL) d. Jack Pinnington Jones 6-3 6-3

Girls QF

(4) Matilda Mutavdzic d. Ekaterina Maklakova (RUS) 6-3 5-7 7-6(2)

SF

(1) Elsa Jacquemot (FRA) v (4) Matilda Mutavdzic

Doubles F

(4) Jacquemot/Keita (FRA/ROU) v Bissett/Tan (GBR/FRA)

Unfortunately it was even more one-sided than in Paris. Jacquemot meets Jimenez Kasintseva for the title in an unusual JWR1 v JWR2 final. No joy for Millie either.

SF

(1) Elsa Jacquemot (FRA) d. (4) Matilda Mutavdzic 6-0 6-2

Doubles F

(4) Jacquemot/Keita (FRA/ROU) d. Bissett/Tan (GBR/FRA) 6-3 6-4

Quite a contest in the girls final, with Elsa Jacquemot edging a third set breaker 10-8
