Just teasing out the process for info. Working assumption is 32 qualifiers in the player of season vote (if it is 31 or 33, 34 it makes no real difference, just tweaks)
First round - Wed 16th - 32 players in 8 groups of 4 - top 2 qualify (incl ties but any player getting no votes won't be able to progress - eg if someone gets all the votes in the group, the others are out) QF - Thursday 17th - 16 players in 4 groups of 4 (are thereabouts, subject to ties etc) - top 2 qualify SF - Friday 18th - 8 players in 2 groups of 4 (again, subject to ties in previous round) - top 2 qualify FINAL - Sat 19th Dec to Sun 20th Dec (evening) - 1 group of 4 players,
After which our GB player of year will be crowned
Hi Jon
are you planning on random draws for the first round or placing by category/type?
Sort of a mix, Brittak - I have separated out the players into "groups" and then drawn them randomly - a bit like the Champions League, keeping players from the same "country/grouping" apart!
groups are already drawn apart from the positioning of the Nov/Dec PoM qualifiers and any other wild cards that come through. I am assuming none (be hard to find anyone deserving outside of the 30 already nominated and no one has PMd me) so it will most likely be 32 or 33 players in 8 groups of 4 and maybe 1 of 5...
eg I have sorted into Mens singles players, mens doubles, womens (singles and doubles have less of a division), juniors, wheelchair, and also separated Player of month winners and runners up from other qualifiers and then done a random draw across all of that. It has worked out very nicely in fact!!
Of the 30 qualified, we have 17 men and 13 women, so each group is 2 or 3 men and 1 or 2 women, as a starter. PoM winners and Finalists are around just over half the field as well, so again an easy split, and then it sort of broke down from there randomly with a little manual manipulation to keep wheelchair players separately, juniors etc.
Once we get into 2nd round onwards then it is every player for himself but keeping group winners apart etc.
It feels like the good old days of March and April, my friend!

Sounds good - you really are a glutton for punishment!! I think I already know who I am voting for!
Yes the main polling season all seems a long time ago but wasnt really but here we are in December and maybe the end of all this rubbish is in sight.....
Looking forward to these upcoming polls - a nice way to end the year and thanks to you for doing them.
If action next week finishes earlier for Brits than Sunday, the Pom polls will go up earlier also and the player of season polls will also go up sooner - basically , end of season polling will start once the brits are all done in mens, womens, juniors, singles and doubles.
Here is a list of the players who would currently qualify for the Player of the Season poll and the criteria.
The players are in red (the black names are where the player qualified through alternative routes, ie more than once) and we have 30 in total.
So, with EWS losing 2nd spot in the womens doubles listings, she loses her spot in the Player of Season listing.
We currently have 29 players, hopefully to be added to by the Nov/Dec PoM vote standings to round out 32.

in the event that the final 3 places arent filled from the nov / dec player of month awards, top 3 places, there are 3 alternatives lined up: alt 1 is for British Tour #1 (Grace Piper, arthur fery already qualified), alt 2 is British Tour 2nd place Anton Matusevich (lily mitazaki cant qualify due to nationality) and alt 3 will be British Tour #3 Nadia Rawson or Dan Little .
it is unlikely we will need 3 alternatives and may need nome at all
no nominations have been received by me via pm so I will close that option down now. The final 3 places will therefore go to nov amd dec Pom top 3 or the 3 alts above.
