Thanks so much for doing this, little sparks in a currently dull life are so important

Thank you Christine - I enjoy it , to be honest, and it amuses me. Ever since I was young I have created fantasy events and competitions. I remember first doing it in 1978 (I have the records somewhere on a yellowing scrap of A4 paper) when I gave my own points to mens tournaments on the Grand Prix (as it was) circuit and have maintained various "fantasy" events and rankings since. I am now 55, I was 13 then, so 42 years! But they are largely for my own amusement, my wife thinks I am just messing and wasting time - she is probably correct. The main thing I often do is create fantasy draws for events and then use H2H stats, last match played on that surface etc to work through the draw. All a bit of fun.

But this is something much more interesting as it involves other people and their thoughts and is thus much less predictable and open to real thoughts and processes. I enjoyed the polls we did in March and April a lot and if I can think of ideas, will keep the process going into the future in some form or other...looks like we may need it!!

OMG

This description feels like it is describing me too which is both spooky and uncanny. I used to compile ranking lists too from results in the newspapers (and subsequently teletext (!)) as there was no internet as well as getting results from Tennis World magazine which I had all copies of for many years. I also have a full set of the World of Tennis annual and ATP/WTA media guides so stats are my thing too although I think you might well use them better than me these days. A funny small world!

Kindred spirits! I imagine there are a lot of us out there!! I imagine, if we had been born in Crewe or Derby we would be train spotters instead...I count my lucky stars!

Hi CD - 4 more groups to come today! I split the first round groups into 2 days, to keep my workload down and spread out the fun!

Players coming up today are: alphabetically

Burrage, Edmund, Evans, Harris, Johnson, Jones, Konta, Lindh, Matusevich, Oluwadare, Pinnington-Jones, Popescu, Raducanu, Reid, Southcombe and Whiley

Will post these groups sometime early afternoon,

Voting in the first set of groups is great, around 20/21 in each group and still a fair amount of time left - all close at 8pm tonight. Glad it has captured peoples imaginations so far, remember 2 go through in each group so not coming top is not an issue, momentum can be gathered and different group structures tend to lead to different results from past experience.

2nd set of round one groups will go up this afternoon

In the QF groups, the group winners are kept separate from each other generally (2 max per group) and players will not be in the same group as a player they came up against in the opening round but other than that I am not keeping like players apart. Players have got to thrive to survive in this next stage!
