Week 32 - UK Pro Series Classic Week- St George's Hill, Weybridge - (Hard)

Ace, coz you asked for input, my tuppence ha'penny worth is I quite like the big names getting the wildcards.
Like Jon.
I think this event has been rather the poor relation and it would be nice for them to boost their profile.
As to betting, Jon, so much of it is in play betting , that there will be plenty to bet on, even with a dead cert. I'd have thought that hev v unr would generate a lot more than unr v unr

Cool, in which case, big names make sense! Still not sure how heather will make lexington though, if shes supposed to be there ?!

I've heard that wildcards will go to Heather and Harriet.

Any rumours on mens wild cards?

Lexington is not the easiest place to get to - the airport is small and didn't at the best of times have many connections to other cities. (Hence why Serena's coach is travelling via Detroit). I can't see how Heather could play the full week and travel as well.

From the UK Pro Series website - news item about Naomi

"Broady is currently ranked No.8 in the country and will be joined by a star-studded array of fellow British talent, with Harriet Dart, Jodie Burrage and Eden Silva in the women's draw and James Ward, Anton Matusevich, Arthur Fery and Liam Broady - Naomi's brother - in the men's."

That suggests Harriet and Eden will get the wild cards

I skimmed through that article last night, before Bagels post, and didn't even see Harriets name, but that would probably suggest Harriet there, but not Heather. Eden has qualified by right for winning the other week, so still a mystery selection.

Harriet and one other (250-500 player) would be better from my perspective. She'd still be the favourite, and would have a chance to play her way into the event, but we've already seen a couple of closely contested matches with Jodie, so another could be good, and she doesn't stand out as much as Heather would IMO. I don't mind them going for bigger names as such to drive up the interest, since a lot of money is being put up, but I'd still like it to be an actual competition as much as possible.

I was having a look at Heather's Insta stories yesterday to see if there were any Lexington clues, but just Olympic flashbacks. You'd think she'd be setting off pretty soon if she was going to play that next week.

And suggests Dino and Anton will get the mens wild cards as Arthur and Liam are also qualified already as winner.

I always find it hard to post links when I'm on my phone, it always comes out a mess and doesn't always work, but if you type the following into Google and click on the Yahoo link, there's a kind of rehash article with a bit added info at the bottom.

Web results
Broady: UK Pro Series blazing a trail for British tennis - Yahoo UK

The final 3 days of the UK Pro Series will have national free to air coverage on Free Sports, while the full week of action will be available on the EuroSport Player.

So the latter stages of the Classic are on that Free Sports channel. Hopefully they still have the YouTube streams running alongside EuroSport Player earlier in the week.

Edit just checked the my Sky planner and sure enough 10am-9.30pm next Friday on Free Sports is dedicated to the event, and back on air at 10am on the Saturday (although you can only check 7 days in advance).

We have an update. Looks like Emma, Harriet and Emily Arb with the 3 WCs.

Hmm, surprised Lissey not awarded a WC , unless she pulled out at the last minute. The font size of Emily Arbs name , compared to the others, makes me think it was a slot-in for a prior entry. But I may be wrong.
So Holly ends up being 1st alternate with 16 points and Emily Arb is in as a WC ( with 15 points), but it's the organisers decision who gets the WC.

Yeah, apart from a cool extra $500, not too much riding on that Holly-Eliz match afterall because Holly moved up a place in the rankings, but the person she passed ended up getting in ahead of her anyway - unless they got their maths wrong (which wouldn't surprise me) and had Holly on 14 points or something, and thought they'd (wrongly) just go next in with Emily Arb? But they have their back covered regardless because it was stated it was 9+3, so they can obviously allocate those 3 WCs how they see fit as you say, and if anyone questioned anything they could just say that Emily Arb was one of their 3 WCs. It'll be interesting to see the final tables though and if they have Holly in 10th place.

There would have been bigger name alternatives, but Emily would be a pretty reasonable WC pick anyway though, and has already beaten 2 of the other 5 in her group.

4 of my favourites out of the 12 are in the same group which isn't too great.

It's just to fit her surname in the space , mark Whitehouse is the same on the mens...no conspiracy theory !
