Penguins of course dont live in Greenland. Well done, White House.
There comes a point when you think that for some reason they must be deliberately appearing stupid. It's like some kind of parody of grown-up government but it really is the government of the US of A. Utterly surreal times.
"Special relationship"? What "special relationship"?
Put aside any negative feelings you may harbour for Prince Harry (I've not a lot of time for him myself) & give him at least some credit for this:
In 2001, Nato invoked Article 5 for the first - and only - time in history. It meant that every allied nation was obliged to stand with the United States in Afghanistan, in pursuit of our shared security. Allies answered that call.
I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there. The United Kingdom alone had 457 service personnel killed.
Thousands of lives were changed forever. Mothers and fathers buried sons and daughters. Children were left without a parent. Families are left carrying the cost.
Those sacrifices deserve to be spoken about truthfully and with respect, as we all remain united and loyal to the defence of diplomacy and peace.
Just to summarise the Trump remarks in an interview with Fox News which provoked the latest backlash:
We've never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan... and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.
The tosser also had the gall to say that he was "not sure" that the military alliance would be there for the US "if we ever needed them".
When is Trump ever going to make up his mind what the hell he wants? Last week, he said that the US didn't need the UK to send an aircraft carrier to the Middle East "after we've already won". Today, he suggested that Japan, South Korea, the UK & even China could send warships to escort shipping through the Strait of Hormuz despite the fact that the odious new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei (as hard-line as his unlamented late father), vowed on Thursday to continue to block it. Trump is quoted as saying that, "one way or the other, we will soon get the Hormuz Strait OPEN, SAFE, and FREE!"(what's his obsession with the use of block capitals?).
I need your help, I don't need your help, I need your help, I don't need your help ...
Good to see Kemi Badenoch openly calling Trump's comments about Starmer childish. Even if partly she sees the way the wind is blowing re the British people's attitutudes to the US and Israel's war with Iran. And basically re Trump.
And his National Counterterrorism Center Director, Joe Kent, resigns - "Iran posed no imminent threat and ( the action ) risked American lives"
In other news ...
After he's finished with Iran he believes he could be taking over Cuba, "I think I can do anything I want with it".
The BBC is "corrupt, fraudulent and criminal" - tbf he has expertise in these matters.
And well let's not even go there re his comrnents on Gavin Newsom's dyslexia.
Just another day ...
