It's all a crying shame. And I literally have had tears in my eyes at various times since Trump was elected.
So much sympathy for the millions of people throughout the world that are seriously effected by the actions of this shameful administration.
Yes. Just on a personal note, I've had to stop myself reading or following the news after 9 pm at night - I need a couple of hours away from it or I risk getting in such a stew I can't sleep
It is all the above - the big question is whether Trump finds a route for a third term. The mood music is there. And there are loopholes. Im possibly due to go the US in June and Im a little worried about it, in terms of entry and visa. Being unwelcome somewhere is not a nice feeling.
This feels like the start of a fascist state - disagree with the leader and your toast. So everyone becomes a sycophantic follower and no one questions for fear of reprisal. Its scary.
His other alternative is to dodge the issue: "We can't hold an election until it is guaranteed to be fair", which - of course - he will never concede to be possible.
Could Trump not at least find a darker blue suit, like some, even though black was requested, nor a black tie, for the Pope's funeral. The pits!
To be fair though - and I agree it was poor show - Biden was not a lot better (bright blue tie, blue suit albeit darker); Prince William - why on earth didnt he have a black suit?! Come on. And Zelensky - I think this is one moment he should have worn a suit and not combats - albeit black combats.
shame on all of them and no doubt others - but yes, shame on Trump most of all
Now Trump chooses Canadian election day to post, again calling for Canadians to make their country the 51st US state.
The Canadian Conservative leader, no doubt in despair, posts on X: "President Trump, stay out of our election" and reiterates that Canada will never be the 51st US state. No doubt true but the Conservatives have been horrendously damaged ( indeed may well be defeated ), largely thanks to Trump's inability to read the mood music and sheer crassness, when they were being expected to walk the election a few months ago.
I am assuming that this is not part of some cunning Trump plan that the less adroit are just failing to see!
The issue is that his supporters - apparently including the whole Republican Party - still think what he is doing is right, and actively and ferociously support him. This makes the actual truth of the situation irrelevant, and what the rest of us think doesn't matter.

But beyond their public face much of the Republican Party, well certainly its representatives, of course don't truly support him, indeed many are probably aghast. But far too many are lacking in balls, look after themselves and come out with stuff they don't believe in or just keep their heads down.
Over the whole populace, the true Trump believers are, to my mind, a staggering minority, but a minority all the same. If only the silent majority would be less silent - less put of by puerile insults and the threat of more for just disagreeing.
World history shows that such acquiescence doesn't end well !

Liz Cheney, the daughter of Dubya's Vice-President, Dick, was a fierce, vocal (&, from what I can tell, reasonably sensible) critic of Trump in the run-up to last year's election who lost the re-nomination for her seat in Congress (representing Wyoming) to a candidate endorsed by Trump in the 2022 elections, so is no longer in any real position of power. This Wiki page lists Republicans who openly opposed the Trump campaign last year. I guess the problem is that their vocal opposition has yet to translate itself into practical opposition, though, given the circumstances, who in his/her right mind wouldn't be afraid that some of the headcases who besieged the Capitol in January 2021 wouldn't come calling when least expected if any of them had the nerve to stick their heads above the parapet?
This AP article makes depressing reading, likewise this Grauniad piece (despite the poor grammar, American spelling & Americanese). That said, I don't think the entire Republican Party is behind Trump. There nevertheless seem to be signs, as Indy has suggested, that the seeds of resistance to his half-baked notion of government have been planted among the more rational members, but it's going to take time for them to grow into something overt & robust &, as you indirectly suggested, there's bugger all the rest of us can do until that happens.
Just when I thought that Trump had scraped the bottom of the barrel once too often, he comes with an AI-generated image of himself in papal garb, posted on 2nd May, less than a week after Pope Francis's funeral, which was then apparently shared by the White House. I'm not going to reproduce it here. I'm not a Catholic, nor even particularly religious, but even in my uninformed opinion, it has to be in the worst possible taste. Words fail me.
