They talk a lot about democracy, considering Trump's actions after the 2020 US election and threats re not necessarily accepting the result before the 2024 election, quite apart from the pardons for those who stormed the Capitol. But if we get started on their hypocrisy it would maybe be difficult to know when to stop.
Quite nauseating by the way the backing Trump has been getting in the past couple of days from senior Republicans ( as well as the up and coming ****-lickers). This isn't anything like the values or the ways of conducting business of the GOP many ( probably most? ) joined, nor I doubt the true values of many of them even now. But they know who the in-crowd is now and how things can get bad for you if you are seen to deviate.
Matthew Syed hits the nail on the head in The Sunday Times, as he often does.
Got so much to mind, spot on, from Starmer's "mortifying sycophancy" - ah, said some supposedly very reaonable commentators, Starmer's looking after the UK's interests, Zelenskyy could have avoided the Oval Office spectacle if he had behaved more like Starmer and Macron. Maybe but truly were they such a good example?
Yes, the rest of the western world must pull together, strongly support Ukraine, tell it as it is ( if more diplomatically than the low insults of Trump and Vance ) and generally show some balls.
You just can't, well shouldn't, keep on bending before Trump and his cohorts. He will only feel emboldened and get worse. Even, as I said before, supposed Republican supporters know this. The vast majority of people surely know this.
But when, oh when, are those who can effect things going to get together and well, effect things?!
I need to leave this thread alone for a bit. Just can't help feeling a need to say. But will leave more room for others.
Dont worry Indy - you feel strongly about it as many of us do and theres no harm at all in saying what you think.
I would be interested to see if anyone out there has a different view and supports Trump generally or supports what he and Vance did on Friday? Not to pick a fight but to get the perspective in a measured way?
A quote from Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus a Dutch humanist, satirist, and philosopher The less talent they have, the more pride, vanity, and arrogancy they have. All these fools, however, find other fools who applaud them.
(I think you can see this without needing an account)
