My son had put a bet on Harris becoming the nomination, or more specifically Biden standing down. He put £75 on (which surprised me!!) and won back his money and £100 on top, placed the bet around 4 weeks ago.

I believe he has put something on Harris getting the nomination - which seems to be the way it is going; I think there was some discussion around Michelle Obama being a possible runner and that is why Barack was holding back, but it looks like it has come together around Harris. Which is a good thing, not even sure Obama wanted to run and, if she does, she can take on Trump next time if he gets in (which I am almost certain he will).

Thankfully no-,one would need to take on Trump again if he wins since he would have served 2 terms - well unless he manages to change the constitution!

Re this election, I am far from certain that Trump will win. If Harris gets the nomination and can manage a relatively gaffe free campaign then I think she has a path to victory through the battleground states.

 Hope you are right!

If the Republican candidate wins this election, I don't think there will be another US Presidential election in my lifetime. The incumbent will commit to holding an election "as soon as it can be guaranteed to be free and fair", i.e. (in his eyes) never. I think he has realised that his error last time was to allow the election in the first place, as he was overconfident - next time he won't make the same mistake.

... I also think that political imprisonments (and perhaps assassinations) will become rife now that the Judiciary have guaranteed him immunity.

Nope, neither of these will be happening. Smacks of some of the rhetoric we got from an American poster ( who later left ) when Trump was challenging the 2020 result and didn't like some of us from afar suggesting that the US was not about to totally fall apart

Exactly. The way people on here are making out Trump to be some Putin type figure is crazy.

Yes, Putin is still reasonably sane

Tbf, it's actually the USA as a collective nation that I retain enough faith in rather than much faith at all in what boundaries an uncontrolled Trump might not like to cross.

Although that guy did foresee the Jan 6th insurrection and tell us it would happen based on what was happening on social media !

I really hope that we don't get the chance to find out, but unfortunately he is likely to get elected because I think tens of millions share your belief that "he couldn't/ wouldn't do that". I happen to think that belief is misguided, because he could and would. He is, in fact, telling anyone that will listen that he can and will - because he is telling his support that it is in the best interests of the country for him so to do.

The US was a gnat's whisker from falling apart - if Pence had followed his leader's orders, he may still be in the White House now. Can anyone imagine his current running mate denying him anything?

Phew, Mystic Veg (predicts the future with asparagus) has foretold a woman will win the US election.

However that woman will be Michelle Obama confuse

Anyone who thinks Trump is not a danger to democracy needs to see this.

"You have to get out and vote. You wont have to do it anymore. Four years, it will be fixed, it will be fine. You wont have to vote anymore.. In four years, you wont have to vote again."

Saw some great banter yesterday:

Trump Campaign: Kamala Harris destroys everything she comes into contact with.

Harris Campaign: Is that why you won't debate me on live TV ?

What a night.

Taylor Swift endorses Kamela Harris.

- oh, and it is generally considered that Harris was the clear winner in the debate

The election betting odds are still very close but for now they have switched round to Harris being slight favourite.
