I see that Queens are running a poll this week with a draw of past champions and a few wildcards!

I saw that! With a complete random draw!!

I suspect Wimbledon may do something similar, maybe Eastbourne event as well.

Theyre actually doing it sort of real time - ie first polls went up as if two matches on Courts 1 and 2, then next 2 at 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm etc.

So they have 8 matches today, 8 tomorrow, with a 2 hour window for each match

twitter.com/QueensTennis

Todays order of play is

Monday Order of Play

Centre Court
Lopez v Stich
Connors v Edberg
Graebner v Becker
Dimitrov v Henman

Court 1
Querrey v Lendl
Stolle v Cilic
Ferreira v Nastase
Okker v Mahut

Draw is as per link below

The queens club fantasy event is quite fun and some decent match ups to select from. Imagine if this had been a real order of play!

Separate from this poll, but of interest in thinking about greatest ever.

In 1984 , john mcenroe set this record: this is on his wiki page.

Wimbledon 1984 68% (13463) games winning % in 1 tournament

Which is remarkable on grass and many think his 1984 season is the best by any player.

It got me thinking though , is this record the actual best ever or just at Wimbledon, and if the latter , what is the best ever in any slam, at least in recent years? Grass would be a surprise for this record to be held on, clay would seem more likely where players like Borg dominated matches.

Anyone know if macs record at wimbledon has ever been beaten at any other slam, and what is the womens equivalent ?record?

Seems Agassi beat McEnroe in the record of most games won in one event

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_Australian_Open_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_Singles

He achieved  71.6% in Melbourne in 2003

Ive been following the queens club fantasy event all week, quite fun.

But the results show how much nearism plays a part in these things!

Last 8 in top half is Lopez v Edberg and Nadal v Cilic.

But...Lopez beat Stich and Henman to get there, I just dont buy that as a likely outcome (realising he was good on grass, Stich and Henman where two of the best), Edberg beat Connors (possibly) and Laver (Edberg was a star on grass but I suspect if Laver had been more recent...), Nadal beat Philippoussis (perhaps) and Becker (really?), and Cilic got through Stolle and Nastase (and easily which I just dont buy).

The event is fun and being done well but !!

Last 16 in other half today, Sampras, McEnroe, Murray, Lendl all involved - Murray v Lendl and Mac v Roddick!

A few strange results, but it is fun! I was shouting (well, in my head!) "Come on Tim!" yesterday, but to no avail. I do think peak Tim would have won though!

I like the way they are doing it like a proper tournament with an order of play and "matches" with strict two hour timings.

The LTA are doing one for Edgbaston but it is only 8 players and hasnt got the same structure to it...

I would like it if Wimbledon did something but suspect 128 player draws would get very complex to manage via Twitter polling, but perhaps they will come up with something that works....

to prove the points, Sampras beat Mahut in todays poll but it was v close! I mean, come on.

Mcenroe just beating Roddick at moment - Mac would have made mince meat of Roddick head to head, too much variety and skill. Maybe just a break or two, but there is no way ROddick would be expected to be Mac!

On the other hand, without commenting on the various results, as you know Jon, what you call "nearism" regarding more recent top players I often call simply "judged to be better" as tennis in general has so much improved.

And I personally certainly didn't agree with neither Nadal or Djokovic getting to the final 6 of our own forum's best male player.

Ah, boring if we all thought much the same ...

 Indeed, indy, vive la difference!

In the queens event, the last 8 is settled (and nothing that Federer isnt playing as he never played Queens):

Lopez v Edberg

Nadal v Cilic

Murray v Sampras

McEnroe v Hewitt.

Which would be a great days tennis!

Really good SF line up and pretty much what I would have gone for myself. As well as Queens, all have won Wimbledon twice with Mac managing a 3rd title there.
