Who is the GREATEST EVER PLAYER? New poll event

Out of interest, did anyone vote for Steffi and Rod throughout. I voted Steffi from the start but voted Ken rosewall and then Fed ahesd of Laver in earlier rounds.

I voted for Steffi throughout. I never voted for the rocket, voting in turn for Rafa, Novak and Fed ahead of him. But a truly great player he certainly was.

Those 3 and Rod would probsbly ultimately be my top 4. I was maybe pushing my generational thing a bit far to suggest Andy be ahead of Rod

Jon, thank you so much for this additional and final poll ( for now )

A great thing about these two polls is that I imagine most of us in truth feel that there is no definitive greatest male or female players, edpecially when we have such generation spreads.

But there cerrtainly are varying opinions, some quite strongly held, as to who we each consider them to be, interesting discussions to be had, and interesting round by round results to look at.

And in the end on this occasion, we have voted two men and two women clearly ahead of the rest with a couple of definite winners.

Well done to Rod snd Steffi

Thanks Indy, I very much enjoyed this one, probably of the ones I have run, I enjoyed it the most.

I also found out over the past weeks that I much prefer the early rounds of polls and not so much the latter. Seeing who is the overall champion is interesting but seeing lots of polls and options, less familiar names and the ensuing stories people tell about them, that is where the real interest for me lies. if I could do just first round polls and stop there, I would be left very happy - sadly , it is ultimately all about the final poll, the rest isnt relevant unless there is a final, but the fun is in the early part!

This is an interesting last observation of yours Jon, which to a large extent I agree with too. I also have enjoyed the early rounds of voting when one is finding out (more) about players and there are a range of votes you can exercise. In the latter stages and especially the final, when you have to eliminate all but one of your preferences it does become less enjoyable... and that I think is largely because few of us have really stand out favourites but like to support a range of players, and that functions in the present and historically.

Still the polls have been a lot of fun, and have learned much from them, so thanks again for your and Brittak's hosting. Thanks also to Rosamund for all the information you provided on a range of players too, that has also been very helpful, certainly for my learning at least!

It does seem as though we have come to a natural end to this process now, and I guess June will provide a gradual look forward to the return of some kind of tennis... as long as things don't go back to being totally crazy again.

I voted for Steffi throughout too. Didn't vote for the millennial players till I voted for Federer in the final. I tended to have more happy memories of the earlier players maybe because of being a Liverpool fan so sport has lost its lustre for me in the last 30 years.

True but you've won 2 champions leagues and weve been down a tier or two , so liverpool is relative bliss !

Congrats to Steffi and Rod - worthy winners!
And thanks for all the organising - it's been particularly fun to think back to those who were playing so many years ago!

Notable Fact.  Last time Liverpool won the title, Leeds got promoted from Div 2 to Div 1 and two years later went on to win the title. I feel a deja vu moment coming on.

I have exactly the same view about real tennis tournaments! I have always had much more interest in the early rounds of tournaments than in the final stages. I guess it's partially because you can see less familiar faces and also because you can see the players at much closer quarters on the outside courts.
