It's now much about waiting to see how bad the hospitalisation and death figures need to get before further UK Government inconsistencies ( like today's pinged self isolating shambles ) and absolule u-turns.
And I feel some u-turns asap would be a very good idea.
He's put his reputation on the line - Now that Billy Smart's is gone where could he go.
Yes, rather frightening to be at the whim of Boris Johnson's reputation as against following the experts and in some instances sheer common sense.
The Labour Party really needs to get much stronger ( and less concern at annoying business? ) re some of the truths it needs to raise much louder. It is unhelpful that much of the real noise is coming from Ratbag Cummings who is producing his stream of no doubt mixture of truths, untrurhs and the full range in between.
Gee, I'm in Scotland and getting angry about the covid damage being done to folk in England. Though I guess yes a fair amount of concern about knock-on effects to us and how far Nicola Sturgeon and co are prepared to diverge ( at least our ongoing face coverings and distancing regulations on public transport and other enclosed spaces such as shops are current biggies ).

Couldn't agree more, Indy.
I am livid with Keir Starmer. Almost more than Boris. After all, Boris is a self-serving people-pleaser, with zero moral compass. It's the nature of the beast.
But why is Starmer the invisible man? What's his excuse?
I can go weeks without seeing him on the news, in the papers.. ...
He is just AWOL
Even Tony Blair has rightly called out Boris on more than Starmer has

Starmer has been a real disappointment, I agree. The polls show that despite everything, Tories had strengthened a couple of points and Labour fallen a percentage point, so the gap is in fact widening. Which given the current situation is preposterous and reflects very badly on Labour and their leadership
Interesting thread re the number of infections from Robert Peston (ITV)
Basically he is saying that the number of daily infections does NOT include reinfections. So if you now test positive, but also had Covid last year, for example, you are NOT included in the daily figure. This suggests that the true number of daily infections is somewhat higher.
Anyone have an issue with the covid tracker app draining their iPhone battery?
Been having an issue for the last few weeks with the battery only lasting ~ 6 hours. Googled and followed all the battery saving tips but didnt help much. Someone at work mentioned having the same issue and had run diagnostics that pinpointed the covid tracker app. Switched the app off and normal battery service resumed. Dont know why its suddenly become an issue
Probably blutooth being more active. I noticed something simlar on my (Android) phone when I had the app running whilst away recently. Try switching off blutooth when you don't need the app running.
I would be very interested in what these diagnostics were. I have had an iPhone for ten years and haven't found any useful diagnostics outside the Apple Genius room.

Nothing sophisticated - apparently she used software on the iPhone that tells you how much battery your apps are using and showed it was the Covid app

In recent weeks the number of people I actually know who have tested positive for Corona, is higher than at any point in the pandemic. These are all people who have had either one or two doses of the vaccine.
What are the implications moving forward? This means herd immunity is "not a possibility" because the Delta variant is still spreading fast and infecting fully vaccinated people.
Professor Sir Andrew Pollard told MPs in the all-party parliamentary group on coronavirus that although 95% vaccination would stop transmission of measles, the same was not true for COVID.
Vaccines have been shown to reduce the concentration of virus particles, or viral loads, in the airways of individuals who become infected, lowering the probability of them transmitting their infection to others. Delta, though, is associated with viral loads that are more than 1,200 times higher in newly infected individuals compared with the original coronavirus strain -- a feature that helps delta spread as easily as chickenpox.
It should be "Show me the science" but it's "Show me the money" Meanwhile loads of people die everyday. The people in charge of this should be done for treason and hung.
And the people at AZ, say, who have made an excellent (if not quite perfect) vaccine, and sold it at cost without a penny profit, and got completely slated, should have a medal and a place in heaven
