Well done Sam, got there in the end, which is all that counts.

And Sam wins on the second BP orpportunity she has, congrats to her indeed.

This is her second counting W25 win after Chiswick last August. More importantly for Sam this will lift her ranking up to around WR 175 once the points go on, which is just 10 places off her CH of 165, achieved way back in Sep 13. It would be really fantastic to see her go past that CH and I just hope that she can do it. She is due to play in Potchefstroom again next week, but those 10 places represent about another 30 pts still, so you she would need to reach the F again to get close to or break that CH. May be a bit much to ask, but it's good to see her getting very close to it at least.

Yes, another good week could see her break that CH. She will still have a couple of 5 point counters though, so reaching the final again may not quite be enough.

Well done Sam. smile

It's still a bit early (even for me biggrin) to be bumping the old 'Wimbledon Wildcard' thread at this stage, but realistically, what do people think Sam needs to do, minimum, to have a decent chance of getting a Wimbledon MDWC? She'll be on 345 points once these 50 SA points replace her lowest counter of 2, and she's only got 30 points coming off before Manchester ITF (18, 6, 6), and 2 of those are basically the equivlent of her lowest counters anyway, so if she wants to add to her tally (by winning matches), then she's not going to miss either of those 6's, so she's in a very strong position to add significant points before Manchester, although saying that, those 56 points for reaching the Manc SF (via qualifying) will drop off before the initial WC picks (15/6/2020), which are usually the following week, so that might go against her.

She's more than secured her place in qualifying, so won't need a QWC or to go in that playoff like last year, and under most circumstances, any Brit between 150-175 would very likely get a MDWC, but do you think Sam would need to go well beyond 150, or even have to take one of the 3 ITFs to be included?

Whether they all get them or not is another question, but there will be a fair few who will feel they probably should be in contention - 4 of the 5 in the most recent FC squad (assuming Harriet doesn't crack the top 104 by then), Sam if she is beyond her career high, Katie B assuming she uses her final slam PR at the French Open, reigning jr champ Sniger (currently ranked 211 from her 13 counters) if she continues to build her ranking before and during the grass, Clijsters, the grass ITF winners (if required), and any other Brit not mentioned (like Jodie, Katy, Fran etc.) if they can put some solid form together before mid June. Plus good old DA (direct acceptance) as well unfortunately.

Interesting few months ahead (assuming it all isn't cancelled...)

They will leave her in qualifying if she is in automatically, unless some of the big names are out injured....

So just hypothetically, say she did reasonably well in the coming months, then made the semi finals of Surbiton, Manchester and Ilkley and had a couple of big scalps along the way, and ended up something like 120 in June, I know that's not necessarily realistic, but if it did, do you still think they'd prioritise someone 200-250+ like a Bains or Swan over her, even if the latter are considerably younger and have been involved in Fed Cup?

I'm not questioning, I'm just interested in opinions.

Even with the LTA and Wimbledon's ageism I'd be amazed if anything around WR 150 didn't get Sam a MD WC.

She has 86 points ( net 81 ) due to come off before then ( nothing before May ) which with nothing added would leave her on 264 points, about 220s in the rankings. So Q direct is effectively guaranteed.

An additional thing is that Sam is good on grass ( 56 of these points to come off are from her Manchester 100K SF ).

Around WR 150, good on grass, 32 yo or not, must be enough. Err I think ...

I'd extend that WR 150 a fair bit, given a good chance she'd still be one of the 2 or 3 best GB non MD direct entrants. Not sure how much these that matter would extend it though.

It would be for James Ward so it would be difficult to overlook Sam.

Excellent for Sam. I'd like to see her get a wildcard if she's around the 150 mark. She'd deserve it!
