Must have been Zuger who had the MTO - after being broken at the start of the third set, Katy has gone to 4-1* in quick time

Yeah, that's the problem with no streams, you never know for sure. It would be nice if instead of 'injury break' it actually said who it was for. Zuger was on the court for 3 hours yesterday, so that, along with the 3rd set score as TA says, probably does suggest it was Zuger, but then Katy has had her share of injuries, retirements, and MTOs recently.

*5-1 now so almost there, and there should now be a British finalist.

Edit - broken when serving for it, I hope I wasn't speaking too soon...

A very good win for Sam, and Katy completes her comeback. As the a says looks like it was Zuger who had the MTO.
The Brits play each other in the SF, so we will have a guaranteed finalist. Sam will be favourite.

QF: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) [1] 213 def SIMMONDS, Chanel (RSA) [8] 342 (CH:158 May 13) 6-7(7) 6-2 6-3
QF: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 343 vs ZUGER, Joanne (SUI) 584 (CH:523 Nov 19) 19yrs (JCH:91 Nov 18) 1-6 6-4 6-2

SF: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) [1] 213 vs DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 343

Well done Katy. Would have been a shame if she lost after beating the (slightly) younger, more promising, higher ranked Swiss teenager yesterday, but she did well to turn it around.

Very big match for both tomorrow. Sam has a chance to reach or pass her career high in the coming months, and 30 (or even better, 50) points here would massively help with that, and then she'd surely have to be in the Wimbledon MDWC convo (although she'll still probably be overlooked), but given where she's currently at, I'd say it was probably more important for Katy, and I think I'd like to see Katy win, but good luck to both!

Sam just needs to keep going for now. She is now comfortably inside the top 200 once these points go on. Her CH position of 165 currently has 367 pts, and she is now up to 313 here, with another 32 pts still to play for, and she is here next week too.

No disrespect to Sam, but Katy needs the points and I will be cheering for her.

Katy finished her match 30 mins shorter than Sam's match.

Hope she's getting fitter the more she plays

I agree with Paulisi - I'll be routing for Katy even though I left her out of my top 10 predictions. Looks like I might have done her a favour whereas I did the opposite to Gabi!!!

Personally I'm rooting for the 32 year old. I'd love to see her win the tournament. However may the better player on the day win.

They have met before, in 2013 in Sunderland W15 when Sam won in a 3rd set tiebreak

I see the bookies have priced Sam and Katy at exactly 50/50, both 5/6. I'm not sure what exact factors or metrics they use to initially set the odds, but whatever they use, they don't seem to particularly rate Sam, as Desperrier was favourite in France the other week, as was Fett in Glasgow, and Hesse (who Sam beat) in Sunderland, and all 3 were lower ranked, some significantly, and on paper, at this stage, you'd probably expect Sam to beat Katy, so I was quite surprised that they can't split them.

Going back to the earlier discussion, we dont know her full plans, and as she is playing well, and her hubby is still involved with tennis, she may be around for a couple more years, but at the same time, if she were to call it a career, say after Wimbledon, it wouldn't be jaw dropping news, so I personally would rather someone with more obvious longevity prevailed, when there isnt a (IMO) massive difference between them in levels and potential levels. If, however, it was say Sam vs Beth or equivalent, then I would want Sam to win.

The match is on first at 8am.

As long as Sam is fit and well, I'd be very surprised if having got all the way back into the top 200 and missed out on so much of her potentially best years, she was to retire any time soon.

On the assumption ( of course, could be wrong ) that she will be carrying on for at least a year or two yet, I'd lean to preferring Sam to win.

But of course, it will still be really good to see Katy into the final if that's how it turns out. Great to see such form from her.
