How many British main draw wins will we get at AO 2020?

I'm currently enjoying my moment in the sun, (for guessing 15) but am confident that by tomorrow I'll be cheering my loss along with Bob. Jon's average of 20 is not looking a bad shout now.

Joe & Rajeev win their QF and that's now 16.

Jonny, Ken and Jamie and partners are still to play tonight.

 And Jamie makes it 17.

Ken still to come tonight, jamie and joe also still in.

Doubles players, mens specifically, hauling is over the hill here

So , here is the poll we all look forward to (I hope!)

How many wins will we achieve in the main draws of MS, WS, MD, WD and XD events, the 5 main draw events.

In 2019 at the slams we got

AO - 18

FO - 13

Wimbledon -25

USO - 24

The average  therefore has been 20 wins per event and so I have set 20 slap bang in the middle of the poll range. Will we get more that 25 and have a crazy year or less than 13 and wonder where tennis is going in 2020?

SO where will we be this year at the AO, with 7 main draw singles players and 7 or 8 in the doubles (depending on whether Dan gets in as an alt) and to be honest who knows in mixed (Jamie, one or two others no doubt, Joe and Neal most likely).

Remember, doubles counts as ONE win if there is a pair together (such as Jamie and Neal) or if there is just one player in the pair (such as Joe with Rajeev) - both count as 1 win.

At least we beat RG last year and almost equalled last years AO wins haul. We can get 7 more wins here, 4 in mens doubles and 3 in mixed, so 24 will be maximum. Which happens to be the top vote in poll.

I am now rapidly disappearing in the rear view mirror, albeit with a smile on my face.

Me, and several others, are looking good at 18-19 - although (as far as I'm concerned) that's thanks to Jon saying it was average/what we got lost year, and I just went with the average (although my heart told me to go with 12 !!!!)

However, higher is looking good too!!!!

So down to Joe and Jamie. If seedings go to plan, we can hope for one more from Joe and maybe a couple from Jamie, max would be 5 more in total and topping out at 22. So from the poll, those who went at the very top end are now done for sadly!

Jamie & Beth win their QF to take us to 18.

That matches last year"s final Aus Open total with 2 pairs into their respective SFs.

Knocks my prediction into the long grass. And around half the voters are also out.

Is it from the SF stage that each win counts as two?

And a tournament win counts as 1000 extra!

Surely the doubles wins, when partnering a non-Brit, should only count as a half. wink

No way !!

Surely it should be one win for a half-Brit team and two wins for an all-Brit team !!

my personal preference is to make mixed doubles count quadruple on the basis it isnt played often and therefore so much more difficult to form a bond and gain wins. Probably the toughest of all the formats, particularly with those MTB's to contend with as well.

I will dwell on it  for the FO biggrin
