Boys & Girls: J1 Traralgon, Australia, hard (Week 3)

The traditional pre Australian Open event should start tomorrow, weather permitting, with 3 of our AO acceptances (Amarni Banks is missing). Felix Gill appears to have the toughest draw against the former JWR5, who has won a Grade A event

Boys R1 (L64)

(11) Bu Yunchaokete (CHN) v Felix Gill

(13) Arthur Fery v Luca Nardi (ITA)

Girls R1 (L64)

Matilda Mutavdzic v Ya Yi Yang (TPE)

Play was curtailed to just the girls singles, where Matilda battled through two tiebreaks to earn a meeting with the American 16th seed, who beat Matilda en route to a Grade 1 title last year.

Girls R1 (L64)

Matilda Mutavdzic d. Ya Yi Yang (TPE) 7-6(5) 7-6(3)

R2

Matilda Mutavdzic v (16) Savannah Broadus (USA)

Better news from Felix though, who wins two matches in a day to meet the JWR10smile     Arthur's match was quite a battle

Luca Nardi (ITA) d. (13) Arthur Fery 6-4 6-7(11) 7-6(5)

R2

Felix Gill d. Max Wiskandt (GER) 6-4 6-3

Bit late to this, and a shame she lost to the seed in R2, but that was a good R1 win. Yang is pretty much the same age as Matilda (a couple of weeks older), and I remember watching her comfortably beat Garland in a Taiwan 125k R1 WC battle a couple of months ago, and she looked pretty good.

Felix made no impression on the Swiss seed, but there is still British interest in the boys doubles

R3

(5) Leandro Riedl (SUI) d. Felix Gill 6-1 6-2
