Weeks 3/4 - Australian Open, Melbourne (hard)

tennis abstract rates our mens chances as:

Cam - 48 % chance in Rd1 v Herbert

Kyle - 67% v Lajovic, then 43% to get through against Kukushkin, 24% chance of getting to last 16, expect Schwartzman to beat him in last 32

Dan - 64% v MacDonald, then rate Nishioka as favourite to beat Dan 55% to 30% in Rd 2 (although that might be as Nishioka is so strong to beat Djere and then forecasts will change if they both get through to play each other).

Overall, Djoko rated to win over Rafa in final

So Kyle favoured to individually win in each of the first 3 rounds if he gets to them ( in that he retains more than 50% of his previous round % ). I'll pass on consideration of quite how good a draw or otherwise he has    But I wouldn't be favouring him at 67% vs Lajovic. Strikes me as more a 50/50 match.

Re Dan, yes in isolation Nishioka not hugely rated over Dan if they meet in R2 but favoured nevertheless ( 55% to reach R3 and Dan drops by over 50% in that round from 64% to 30% ). Again I'd diverge a bit and make Dan favourite in a match vs Nishioka.

Be great if the best player either lose to in the first four rounds is Mr Djokovic. A lot greater if one of them beats him!

Dan should go one round further than last year when he lost to Fed in 2nd; likely losing to Novak in 3rd this year.

Just a reminder in case anyone wants to participate in the poll

Hmm maybe should have put it first in the general discussion section, then move it later Jon? I see only 6 people have voted so far, so you still need a lot more...

Might have got more by asking about 2020 and not 2019.

 9 voted now.

I used to put them in general section but someone complained and asked them to be moved, so this time I put it straight into predictions !

In doubles, and not sure if there'll be a separate thread on this.

1st quarter

Joe and rajeev , 11th seeds, play Cam and fucsovics

2nd quarter

Jamie and Neal, 14th seeds, play hurkacz and pospisil

Luke and Ben play pavic and Soares, 10th seeds.

3rd quarter

Johnny and arevalo play dellien and londero

4th quarter

Dom and Qureshi play rojer and tecau 8th seeds

Ken and Gonzalez play Millman and kwon

Not a bad set of draws, tough for luke and ben.
