Because of a poor weather forecast tomorrow they decided to play the semis as well yesterday, and the finals today. Ben won another tight match to make the final. If he wins he will follow in illustrious footsteps - the only previous British winner in the under 12 boys being Andy Murray in 1999

U12 SF

(6) Benjamin Gusic-Wan d. Calvin Baierl (USA) 7-6(5) 7-6(5)

F

(1) Alejandro Arcila (COL) v (6) Benjamin Gusic-Wan

....and according to Colette "Benjamin Gusic-Wan of Great Britain is 2019 Junior Orange Bowl boys 12s champion. He defeats Alejandro Arcila of Colombia 63, 62 " Bravo Ben - if he has anything like the career of his British predecessor he will do well smile

Bloody Hell! well done Ben. I hope it is the beginning of a really enjoyable career. I just hope he really enjoyed himself. Tennis at U12 should still be fun even if you are very good, lets hope there is not too much hype, it least he should get plenty of LTA support moving forward.

Great result.

I bumped the thread with his Super Auray title earlier this year, because there's a lot of comment about him, if anyone want to see it.

Or watch one of his matches on Youtube (well, dip in and out - it's quite long!) - well worth it.

Add: just to add, he was born on 21/11/07, so only very just turned 12.

From Colette's blog:

"Gusic-Wan said he got off to a slow start, but soon had figured out what he needed to do to counteract Arcila's game style.

"I needed to find my range in the first games, but then I got into it a bit more," said the diminutive right-hander, who recently turned 12.

"He was an aggressive baseliner and liked to attack with his forehand, so I had to move him about, hit some angles," said Gusic-Wan, who won the prestigious Open Super 12 in Auray France back in February.

Gusic-Wan, who hopes to play the big 14-and-under tournaments next month in Bolton and Tarbes, said he did not think about joining Andy Murray as a Junior Orange Bowl champion until he finished the match. "It's good to be there with him," Gusic-Wan said with a laugh."

Colette corrected the score to 6-3 6-3
