Boys & Girls: J1 Bradenton, USA, clay (Week 49)

Millie Bissett came through qualifying in style for the Eddie Herr tournament, winning her final qualifier 0 & 0, to ensure British interest in the girls event.  We have three boys in the main draw, plus one or two in the under 14/under 16s (Fabio Nestola the most well known).  Felix Gill defeated his opponent in 3 tough sets in a Spanish Grade 2 recently, but Toby Samuel has drawn the short straw of the JWR21, who was a finalist in the Japanese Grade A

Boys R1 (L64)

(9) Felix Gill v Max Wiskandt (GER)

(WC) Evan Wen (USA) v (10) Arthur Fery

(5) Jeffrey Von Der Schulenburg (SUI) v Toby Samuel

Girls R1 (L64)

(Q) Amelia Bissett v Hibah Shaikh (USA)

With thanks to Colette at Zoo tennis, it seems that Felix, who beat Aidan yesterday in two, has today taken out the 7th seed, 6-3 7-5

However, Arthur (who also won yesterday) has lost in two sets to Arthur Cazeaux (FRA), the 6th seed

Just to mention too, that Clervie Ngounoue - age 13 and a wildcard - has just put out the 4th seed with amazing ease.

Clervie is rather in the mould of Coco Gauff, another wonderfully athletic, strong girl who plays a super game of aggressive tennis.

A name to watch out for !

In the under 14s Fabio Nestola was seeded 11, and exceeded his seeding position to reach the quarter-finals. There today he met the Tennis Europe No.1 Mihai Alexandru Coman and Fabio pushed the Romanian to a 6-4 2-6 6-3 scoreline.
