Blast. They had two MPs, the first on return, the 2nd on their own serve, but they lost their last two service points, and then the Chinese pair won on their first MP.
The banana skin it appeared to be. Very unlucky at *10-10 to be victim of a net cord, but always stings to miss match points. Hopefully they can have a better run in the 25k next week, and in the rest of this swing.

A shame for Harriet, and a missed opportunity to defend some upcoming points, but EWS' hopes of a W100 QF have just significantly improved. She'll still be a reasonable underdog, but to face a fellow qualifier, 27 next month, outside the top 300, who has recently lost to some lower ranked players in and around EWS' ranking, is a (relatively) nice draw, which won't come around too often.
I watched a bit of Emily's singles last night. Right from the warm up it was obvious that there was only going to be one winner. The Chinese girl's serve was erratic, her volleys poor, and her overheads even worse. Emily soon sussed her out and after that it was easy.
