In the doubles, Bryan Twins have called a halt to their season. So it is a slug fest between Dodig / Polasek and Chardy/Martin for last spot. Dodig /Polasek get spot if they get to final of Paris or if Chardy/Martin fail to win the title. Seems like Dodig and Polasek are favourites.
Albot *4-3 up in that second set but then loses 9 of the next 10 games, or Gael wins them if you prefer. Big match against Shapo. Still think it's reasonably likely the 9th player will end up involved and I'd rather Gael in than RBA, so don't really mind who wins that Monfils match tomorrow.

Monfils not only needs to beat Shapovalov to pass Berrettini, he needs the win to pass RBA. Monfils is live 10th, still 10 points behind RBA.
Lose and RBA, as first alternate, would be the immediate beneficiary of any pull out from the top 8.

Yeah, I'd definitely prefer Berrettini out of the 3, but I just find RBA so boring and would rather he wasn't involved, so it's a difficult one for me.
I can see a Nadal, or perhaps one of his fellow big 3 pulling out, and in that scenario, I'd much rather have Gael and Matteo in the line up than Matteo and RBA, so I might be leaning towards preferring a Gael win, and then if there is a withdrawal, a player I like would benefit rather than someone I didn't, if that makes sense.
Plus if nobody pulled out then it's still been an amazing season for Matteo and it will be an extra incentive to maintain / push on next season having (potentially) just missed out.
With Djokovic winning Paris, it means race for top spot is well a d truly alive in london, I suspect this will mean rafa will certainly play, if he was wavering. Good news for the event
So assuming Group A starts on Sunday. Group B on Monday with Djokovic probably playing Berrettini. Then assuming Djokovic and Fed both win then Wednesday night could see Djoko vs Fed...ooh I wonder if there are tickets left. Of course if you book tickets now, Thiem will probably end up beating Fed, so you would see Djoko vs Thiem.
Still expecting RBA to come in for Nadal which would change things, but for now, they do look well balanced groups. Good that Med, Tsitsipas and Zverev are all in a group and we should get some good matches, and with Nadal's situation, even if he does play a match and withdraw like a couple of years ago, there's a fairly decent chance that 2 of them will go through.
Sunday
2pm - Djok vs Berrettini
8pm - Thiem vs Federer
Monday
2pm - Tsitsipas vs Medvedev
8pm - Nadal vs Zverev

Good plan, apart from it is the other way around according to Ace Ventura's post - Group Borg kicks things off, so Djoko v Fed would be on Tuesday if they both win, Thursday if one wins only

Full schedule incl doubles is announced in fact and Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram kick things off. Presumably the bbc still showing the 2pm matches each day, so Djoko v Berrettini and Tsitsipas v Medvedev are actually good matches for introducing new talent to a wider audience

Ive been watching some of the highlights from Milan tonight and have to say, have been thoroughly entertained. I have to say, the idea of an U21 World masters works well for me, relative to the pointless B Finals of the Elite Trophy in the ladies. The crowds in Milan looked strong, certainly in the evening, the atmosphere was good, tennis seemed good and players seemed up for it. The new first to 4, 5 set scoring system works well as well, max length of a match is thus 35 games and maybe 2 1/2 hours max, and yet has a 5 set feel about it.
Good stuff and also good to see Sinner get a win for Italy in the last match this evening
