Shanghai 1000 this week (week 41), 3 indoor European 250s next week (42), 2 European indoor 500s the week after that (43), and finally, Paris 1000 in week 44, so still plenty of points on offer.
How do you see it panning out? Will the 'Big 3' all play? Who do you want to make it who isn't yet confirmed? Anyone on here going with it being the penultimate edition at the O2?
Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Medvedev and Thiem are all confirmed (for now), and it would be a big surprise (to me) if Tsitsipas didn't make it from the position he is currently in. RBA is in 7th and the reigning champ Zverev has sneaked back into 8th with his Beijing semi final. Goffin, Berrettini, Nishikori (misses Shanghai), Monfils and Fognini seem the most likely to threaten, but with 16th seed Sock, and the unseeded Khachanov winning Paris the past 2 years, you can't fully rule out someone further back gatecrashing the party.
It looks a more refreshing potential line up this year. I can see Nadal withdrawing again, but as it stands there is a good mix of the obvious big names, and younger players, and I think a nice change from the usual big servers who often make it. I'd be happy enough with the current top 8, but while it would be nice for RBA to play for the first time at 31 (he has been an alt before), I'd like to see someone pass him, probably Berrettini, but I think the Spaniard will make it.
I think at the moment, any of the top 20 can get there, but a lot will change once this week is done and dusted, and once there is only the one Masters left to go for. At the moment, realistically I think back to 17th and Khachanov are the real challengers. Nadal I think would like to be #1 and so may not play the European events but may well play O2; I suspect his bigger aim is to play in (and win) a home Davis Cup and thus playing just the O2 and its lure of 3 guaranteed matches on a similar court to that in Madrid may well attract him to London this time around.
Going to keep my gunpowder dry on predictions though for the top 8 just yet until i see how Shanghai pans out.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the 6th player to qualify for the ATP Finals. Joins Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Medvedev and Thiem. Two spots left (probably till Paris). Stef first ever Greek ever to qualify.
And a great looking win for him today against Novak to cap that off.
Big win for Matteo B against RBA yesterday as well, and he'll leapforg RBA into the qualifying positions if he can beat Thiem later today, also Zverev if the German loses to Federer.
At least theoretically, 40 players have a chance of taking the last two places in London. Dan is still alive, but needs to win both next two weeks events, and then hope none of the top runners do anything of note.
So it clearly wont happen!
Anyway, the crosses against names shows who is now mathematically out
The three London hopefuls Goffin, Fognini, Monfils played their opening round matches today. They won 11 games combined against opponents with combined ranking of 440.
The Basle draw looks the more stacked this next week, Dan is of course playing there, Kyle is in Vienna.
Of the top 16 entries are
Vienna
Main Draw
5 Thiem, Dominic (AUT)
9 Khachanov, Karen (RUS)
12 Monfils, Gael (FRA)
13 Berrettini, Matteo (ITA)
15 Coric, Borna (CRO)
16 Schwartzman, Diego (ARG)
Basle
Main Draw
3 Federer, Roger (SUI)
6 Zverev, Alexander (GER)
7 Tsitsipas, Stefanos (GRE)
10 Bautista Agut, Roberto (ESP)

19 Wawrinka, Stan ( SUI) - he will move into outside contention with a win this week in Antwerp, hence why listed.
In doubles , klaasen and venus and krawietz and maes are qualified now according to live rankings site. Not sure of Bob and mike Bryan's position, they're in 5th, joe and rajeev would really like a win tomorrow.

Been no sign of the Bryans since they lost in the L16 of the US Open?

Indeed, not clear if injury or something else may cause them to not play London? They arent entered into paris next week either.

In theory at least , these are the players still able to take one of the last two places in London. 14 players in theory at least. The last few need to keep going in play this week and at least get to within distance of Berrettini so that an unlikely Paris win would give them a chance to qualify. Realistically, Isner needs to win Paris as well and hope results go his way, unlikely after time out and assuming he doesnt withdraw from Paris. Wawrinka also probably needs a Paris win and after pulling out to Federer today, playing in Paris must be a doubt.
