Boys: J1 College Park, USA, hard (Week 34)

There are two Grade 1 events before the US Open, one in the US and one in Canada. Arthur Fery and Harry Wendelken are in the US Open qualifying draw, and have been joined here by 3 other Brits

R1 (L64)

Oscar Weightman v (WC) Hayden Postin (USA)

Sam Bossem v Victor Lilov (USA)

(12) Harry Wendelken v Benjamin Kittay (USA)

(8) Arthur Fery v James Tracy (USA)

John Bernard (USA) v Matthis Ross

Go Sam !

I think Sam is a bit of a hidden gem.....

I'm a fan of Arthur, of course, too, and Harry and Oscar have lots of qualities to like. But Sam is not one of the favoured few, as far as I can tell, but has a lot of talent.

An encouraging clean sweep. Top two seeds up next for Oscar and Matthis - both top 30, but unusually there are no top 20 players here

Sam Bossem d. Victor Lilov (USA) 6-2 7-6(4)
(12) Harry Wendelken d. Benjamin Kittay (USA) 6-3 6-4
(8) Arthur Fery d. James Tracy (USA) 6-3 6-3
Matthis Ross d. John Bernard (USA) 6-4 6-2

R2

(1) Flavio Cobolli (ITA) v Oscar Weightman
Sam Bossem v Micah Braswell (USA)
(12) Harry Wendelken v (Q) Braden Shick (USA)
(8) Arthur Fery v Jack Anthrop (USA)

Well done, boys - what a nice set of results - and all in two sets, too

NB Slightly surprising that Blu Baker, who's entered for the US Open juniors, is choosing not to play here but to play the G3 in Mexico instead. It's hard court, the same, so no real difference I guess. But he's obviously choosing to play down, it's not the first time he's done so, it's presumably a coaching decision.

Arthur has continued the trend for straight sets wins today (6-2 6-4) but unfortunately Sam was on the receiving end (1-6 3-6)

And Harry W also comes up trumps, winning 6-3 6-3

But Matthis loses in three.

We've got three GB lads in the SFs of the doubles too, Oscar and Harry playing together and Arthur playing with a Hungarian boy.

I think they went inside to complete Harry's match because of rain, and he just lost out on a maiden final. Doubles later for Harry, but Arthur cruises in the other semi to his first Grade 1 final

Micah Braswell (USA) d. (12) Harry Wendelken 6-3 0-6 6-4

Doubles SF

Hanzlik/Kittay (USA) v (8) Wightman/Wendelken
(2) Fery/Makk (GBR/HUN) d. (3) Lingua Lavallen/Torres (ARG) 6-3 6-2
