I know they have free, unlimited coaching in some junior matches. I hadnt thought about it for grand slams.
I agree, it's way too much, imo, for a 17/18;year old.
The coach has told him to attack the backhand. Hope it completely backfires !
In 2017 they trialed on-court coaching at the US Open Juniors and this year decided to allow it at all Grade A/1 events from the stage where chair umpires are introduced. There are protocols to be observed, which you can find here along with the FAQs
Anton has been upgraded to court 3 tomorrow (first up). It's another rematch from Roehampton - one he won, so he will hope that there isn't another reversal of result as with Rune. The doubles are all on court 5
QF
Anton Matusevich v (8) Shintaro Mochizuki (JPN)
Doubles R2
Spizzirri/Zink (USA) v (WC) Fearnley/Thomson
(WC) Fery/Samuel v Baadi/Jianu (CAN/ROU)
He does not come across well here. Why does he even need to make these comments? The guy he's slating is 16 and already a junior slam champion, who probably won't still be playing junior events at 18.... let's hope we don't have another Tomic or Kyrgios on our hands!
I agree there are some slightly crass sounding comments.
But the boy's only young ! Show me a teenager who doesn't sound a bit daft sometimes...... (adults too, in fact....)
And with little experience of talking to the media, and how things come across, and how one phrase can be taken out of context.
After all, this was the lad who last year said he was how own idol - and Sue Barker is still quoting it, a year later, on BBC main channel transmission!

You could say he's getting better
Yes CD we all do and say daft things from time to time (and quite happy to include myself in that) and yes we may not be given the full facts but judging by the handshake I don't think Rune likes him that much and neither would I if I had been on the receiving end of such comments. You can only hope that in a few years time or somewhere down the road - if he did come out with such comments - that he regrets it. Perhaps Sue Barker hasn't helped the situation and should know better.
I don't want to sound too definite because I barely know the boy (and it's not to be ultra pro-GB) but I saw a lot of Rune's first round Roehampton match against Oliver and I really didn't take to him.
He had an 'entitled' air, as though - if he missed a ball - it just wasn't possible, the gods must be conspiring, or his opponent should have had the good grace not to play such a shot against him.
And he was winning against Oliver pretty easily, without playing that amazingly, and still went into a meltdown in the second set because Oliver refused to completely roll over and die. It was all rather unnecessary.
And I found his match against Anton on TV rather the same. And not forgetting the linecalling incidents already mentioned above.
So, with a BIG caveat that it's only based on two matches, but if Rune doesn't like Anton then I don't think Anton has lost out much (and maybe Rune hasn't either......)
